Hi

Decided to take the plunge and buy a HD flatscreen to go with Sky HD box. However totally confused which  screen size to get. Sitting distance is about 1.8 metres away and may be 2.5 metres away if i decide to put it on a wall.

I liked the sony 40W4500 and see from the reviews the panasonic Tx-37LZD800 is recommended. But before deciding which brand to get, need to decide on screen size first

Current TV is a phillips CRT 36 inches i think

Went to some shops today and was amazed at the 50 inches and 60inch screen. How do people have such big lounges ?

Also the amount of models coming out totally bewildering -but that's another story.

 Any advice much appreciated.

cheers

If you wall hang it go bigger 42" even 46". A 37" wall hung will look so small. If you go for the smaller TV I will bet you will regret it. I sit 10 feet away from my 50" HD is brill SD is also fine

I would disregard the 37" (unless budget is tight) and push up to a 42" at that distance. 46" may seem a little big especially at first but I bet you would get used to it and like it if wall mounted. 40" would be my absolute minimum if I was you and I really think you will appreciate the extra 2" a 42" will give you - you already have a 36" crt which must seem massive. Go 42" unless you cannot afford a good one (a great 37" will look better than a poor 42"), if you can afford it then take a good long look at the 42" TV's out there, I'm sure you won't be disapointed.
