Firmware update on a flashdrive instead of burning into a CD.

I have purchased a Panasonic DMP-BD60 and came across the net about updating it's firmware. Mine's version is 1.5 while there is a version 2.3 on panasonics support page. I have already downloaded the 30MB file. On the instruction, it is said that once the file is downloaded, decompress the file and burn it into a cd. Is there a difference if I use the USB system of the player? Instead of burning, I'll be saving the file in a flashdrive and plugging it to the player. Will there be any side effect? Has anyone tried it?

Thanks for your answer!

If connected to t'Interweb, then yes, the player can check, either manually or automatically, for updates and apply them.

If not, it seems a CD-R disc is the only way - it seems the player isn't set up to read firmware updates from USB drives.
