After taking advice from people on here and the salesmen at my local Hi-Fi shop i have purchased the NAD C355BEE and Music Hall mmf 2.2 turntable. Pick them up on friday cant wait, its going to be a long week lol.

I now need help with speakers as the second hand bose i picked up arent gunna do it for me.

i'm after floorstanders and was thinking of B&W CM7 or Kef IQ90. i want them to be able to produce a decent sound stage with plenty of depth and tight bass, also i want the sound to be as natural as possible (not clinicial or too bright) any suggestions around the price range of the B&W CM7 would be awesome even a little more pricier if i would be jumping to a lot better quality.

I may be asking too much for my budget i'm not sure. thanks in advance guys.

IMO the B&W CM7's are hell of a lot better than the Kef's but that's due to my taste in music and hearing. You'd need to demo them yourself to judge

Other speakers IMO would be:

M/A RX6's or the GS20's
B&W 683's
Dali Ikon 6's
Dynaudio Focus 110's
PMC GB1's

It's be handy to know what music you generally listen to

Thanks for the reply Dan, some of my favourite artists are pink floyd, supertramp, dire straits, neil young, fleetwood mac, metallica, the police, the eagles. i also enjoy classical guitar.

also i will be looking at getting a power amp for the 355bee a bit later on so will have plenty of power for most speakers in my budget.

I'd deffo have a nosey at the Monitor Audio RX6's and the GS20's then as well as the PMC GB1's.

You may find that you dont need a power amp with the NAD; it's a powerful amp as it is but it'd still be worth demoing I'm sure

I'm waiting for mine to land very soon; mines being partnered with the M/A RX6's and the NAD C545BEE CDP

I would personally avoid both Kef IQ90 (very "muscular"-sounding - great midrange but sluggish bass) and B&W CM7 (nice speaker but bass is rather overblown and not tight)

I reckon MA RX6 or RX8 will give you the tight bass, clarity and power. They sound a bit like the CM7's but leaner and have more control, which I think is very important if you listen to stuff like Metallica =)

I thought I'd add that I just bought DALI Ikon 6 speakers, which are amazing, but I'd be careful about recommending them because they definitely have a "love it or hate it" kinda sound - bass is tight but somewhat subdued.

Also consider Spendor A5's - lovely sound but you may find them too dark for heavy rock / metal.

I'd recommend either Monitor Audio RX6 or Dynaudio Excite X32. I really think the X32 would be perfect for you based on your description (if you can stretch your budget). Won WHF best speaker award for 2008.

thanks guys, just read the reviews on the M/A rx6 and i have too say i really hope i can demo them, I live in a small part of Australia where there is only 2 hi-fi shops i can go to without getting on a plane lol. most places just stock surround sound gear av recievers and very average speakers. also a lot of gear in Australia is a lot more expensive than in the UK as it is imported and there is importing fees on top of the normal retail price. i really liked the primare i30 amp which if you convert the 1750 pounds it is in the UK to aussie dollars it equals roughly $2800.00 yet down here it is $4600.00

Just found a prices on monitor audio gear in aus and they are priced very reasonably was just wondering if you knew anything about the RX 8s as they are in my price range also.
