The Avalanches - Since I Left You (2000)
Oh, it was a happy time. Was there ever a more genial magpie of a record? The Avalanches also played one of the very best gigs I've seen/heard, particularly considering how many of them were on crutches or had arms in plaster. >

Amazing album, you made me put it on! It is one of those albums which is a trigger for a certain period of my life, very funny memories of working stretches of nights in a rather delusional state listening on a portable cd player, do you remember them?!🙂

Beady Eye - Different Gear -Still Speeding is IMO actually great, blasting it out loud now - best album Oasis didnt make. Its like a megamix of every Who / Beatles / Stones record Ive ever heard!

Which is why they won't get away with it again, one album wonders I predict.

But that single, hasn't he taken his John Lennon fixation too far? It sounds exactly like lennon.

Sparklehorse, but I think they did more than three albums.

Irish band Whipping Boy did three albums , of which I only have their second Heartworm and is excellent. They could have been big .

Nick

sex pistols - never mind the xxxxx - only 1 proper album

N.W.A - rap would be nothing without them

and as someone else mentioned - joy Division

Cream

Joy Division

The Sex Pistols

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

LCD Soundsystem

Leftfield

The Ruts

N.W.A.

As a special bonus side question, who SHOULD have stopped after their first one or two? ;-)

The Freestylers.

First two albums, 'Raw as (very naughty word beginning with F)', and 'We rock hard' were total breakbeat perfection. The kind of albums I still play loads over a decade after buying them. And not many fit that category...

Pretty much everything that followed after is total dross.

EDIT: Same can also be applied to Pendulum- they were great til the frontman decided he ought to try singing. Oh dear.

The Smiths studio albums.

The first two All About Eve albums which were the only two to feature Tim Bricheno on guitar.

Oh Yeah! , its ridiculous how much the whole album sounds like youve already heard it before.....but its still pretty good all the same, don't ask me to explain why???

Tom Waits and nick cave bar a few duff albums both have been consistently brillant. Know that you meant people with only a little output but true brillance is prolific output that is of a great quality.

So let me get this right, you KNOW what the point of the thread is, you're just completely ignoring it? Genius...

The only thing I can think of for this is Senser's first album Stacked Up. For a time I thought they might be worthy of carrying PWEI's mantle but it appears their group were just too eclectic and they split after that album (half the group carried on with the name and may have released additional albums but I've never heard them and it isn't the same band at all).

Maestoso. Only 4 studio albums and 1 live album but absolutely incredible writing and musicianship. This band was led by the late, great Woolly Woolstenholme who was also the mellotron maestro in Barclay James Harvest and the lead vocalist in most of their early Harvest label work.

A great starting point for anyone new to Maestoso is the album 'Grim' - one of my favourite albums of all time.

For me it's got to be:

U2 - The Joshua Tree
GUN - Gallas (Their second album Swagger was also very good)
Erasure - The Circus
AC/DC - Back in Black
Big Country - Wonderland

Each are brilliant in their own right and put me into a state of daydreaming whenever I listen to them. There are more but I don't want to bore everyone.

James Blunt

Alanis Morrisette

Damien Rice

X factor winners (sorry, they did stop after one in the main)

..and back to the OP how about Secret Affair and Purple Hearts?
I think James blunt should have given up BEFORE the first one or two 😛

The Blue Nile

They have four! Still a great choice though.

Elbow, also four!

i-Ten - one AOR release to rule them all - Taking a Cold Look.

As much as it pains me, I'd say Pearl Jam.
Agreed. I've not liked anything since 'No Code', back in '96. I kept hoping they would regain their form, but after the abysmal 'Backspacer', I finally threw in the towel and faced the fact that they now suck. And Eddie's ruined his voice now and sings like a toothless geriatric.

I'm holding out a hope that the new Soundgarden record, that they're in the studio now to record, will be great. Hopefully nothing like Cornell's last solo effort (Timbaland as producer? WTF?).

Off the top of my head:-
Sisters Of Mercy
The Bolshoi
Claytown Troupe
Carrie
CSS
Wilt
Eat
Atom Seed
Deepest Blue
Zwan
And finally Reuben
There are probably loads more if I put my mind to it.
I'll stand alone and say that Pearl JAm have released some great stuff since No Code. Backspacer isn't that bad at all and Yield has 2 of my fave Pearl Jam songs on it. 'Given To Fly' and 'Wishlist'. Pearl Jam come to think of it is a good album. Ten was, and is very over rated. There is some real filler on it. 'Black' is by far the best track on the album.

Janes Addiction (the original line up of Perry Farrell, Steve Perkins, Eric Avery and Dave Navarro)

Janes Addiction Triple X

Nothing's shocking

Ritual De lo Habitual

Truly epic music created by pioneers of their crafts inspired by genius.

Totally! Saw them live at Leeds about 8 years ago, brought back many teen memories! 🙂

Brings back memories for me too. 20 years ago in Leeds on The Ritual De Lo Habitual Tour. I've still got a tour shirt somewhere.

Some great suggestions so far. I'd add:

Buddy Holly - just three studio albums in two years, before 'the day the music died", yet each packed with classic songs.
