My taste in jazz is very eclectic and somewhat left field. I did start with the usual suspects ie. Krall etc and then got carried away into the amazing world that is jazz, much of it instrumental, much of it so different that most of my friends don't ask me anymore to recommend music ...

However, if I had to recommend jazz that has some vocals in it and that is accessible (musically/harmonically) to the more 'main stream' jazz listener without selling out commercially (Krall) then I would suggest listening to Avishai Cohen's Seven Seas.

Haunting and beautiful.
