hi all, well i am sure we are all being brainwashed about these new tvs on the market now they are not a patch on the old crt tv to see the lcd at their best you have to be looking at them dead center or they grey out! My 2 month old samsung tv has developed a fault no picture! My crt sony i had for 10 years without any problems till it gave up,The technical side of things today should be tops. I can't believe my new tv gone wrong, now i have got to wait for an engineer to come out then i may well have to wait for parts.Has anyone else had problems with tv after such a short time?

Are you sure there's not a stray EMP device in your household, killing all your kit! First the portable DVD player and now your TV - you're not having much luck, are you?

TBH, after just two months I wouldn't put up with 'waiting for parts': if the engineer can't fix it first time, tell him and company you bought it from you're rejecting it, and get either a replacement or a refund.

hi all, I was just going ask what would others would do in the same situation? i suppose now i have got to wait for someone to come and look at it, could be a week or two and then if it cannot be fixed got to wait for a part.Well i will do as you advise. thanks again for support.

hi all, i have been at know your rights on the web and in it it says The trader must sort out your problem, not the manufacturer!Well i rang the trader a big high store company and they put me through to samsung. who then said a different company would get in touch to make an appointment for an engineer to come, so is the store passing the buck so to speak or is that a good thing speaking to the manufacturer?

A year or so ago I had a issue with my 6 month old Samsung Plasma. I contacted Samsung who arranged for a local appointed engineer to call me directly. He did so and visited my house a few days later and confirmed I had a problem with my panel which would need a replacement pannel.

He left me his report to confirm this, at this point I contacted my retailer who I purchased the TV from and told them I was not happy to have my TV fitted with a new pannel as it was only 6 months old and requested a replacment TV which was within my rights. After faxing them a copy of the engineers report they without any problems aggred to a new set which actually worked to my advantage as prices had changed since I purchased it and for a extra £100 I got to upgrade to a full HD set

hi all, i did not like to say but it was dixons on line, i had a phone call from engineers but i was not in at the time, i am getting a bit concerned that the problem may be something to do with the belkin surge protector although i have had it connected for about 2 weeks i disconnected it and tv still no picture it used to come on for about 15 mins but wont come on at all now.I have got the 12 month warranty, makes you think tho about taking out extended warranty if tv goes wrong after 2 months!

hi. johnduncan, but the price was right at the time for this samsung model and everytime i went into my local john lewis i kept bumping into a sales assistant who kept plugging sony tv because he used to work for them and he was bias no other tv was a match. now tho i think he was right as i have always had sony tvs with no problems! But they were crt and seemed to last forever! So you can tell how old i am.

Younger than me I'll wager

Anyway, I've always found John Lewis very, very good (though unusually last time I was there the assistant was young and ill-informed). They'll price match (though it can take a while), but the kicker is their after-sales service, which is absolutely brilliant when things go wrong.

I've returned a few tvs.

3 year tv from Asda when they did their 3yr warranty - went wrong two weeks before warranty was about to expire - honest !

8 month tv from Argos.

2 x tvs from internet site. About a month.

2 from Woolworth. 2 months. One day for other.

There's probably more but I've forgotten. There's people who've returned far more than me.

JohnDuncan:Or get a refund, and go and buy a new telly from John Lewis, who will a) be just as cheap and b) would have sent somebody round with a new telly and taken the old one away already...

Other retailers are available.............

Many of the independant retailers in the UK have been offering this service as a bare minimum for decades. The same retailers who offer choice and experience and demonstration facilities and dare I say it an income stream for the publications based on our industry.

Thanks for all your info guys! Now should i let the engineer come and put a new part in? or from the start say no way its only 2months old i wont a new tv or refund! if i have a refund i have got to start over again looking for one and i as woman cannot make my mind up it took me ages looking at the reviews to try and sort out which model to go for. Someone has given me an old 20 in crt tv to look at its quite a good picture i might just stick to that!!
