Hi all i have faulty Samsung 40b650 which i bought from beyond televison, i have contacted them and they state i would have to pay for the tv to be returned to them even tho it is only 7 days old. does anyone know if this a correct?

I doubt it - take a look here, under 'The retailer's obligations':
"If there is an obvious fault with the item at any time within the
first 6 months and it has not been caused by wear and tear or misuse,
your first port of call must be the shop you bought it from. They have
the responsibility to put the matter right, and should not evade this
responsibility by referring you to the manufacturer in the context of a
guarantee or warranty.
In the first instance and if considered appropriate, the seller must
offer to at least repair the goods. They must do this within reasonable
time, at no additional cost to you and without causing any significant
inconvenience."
As it's only 7 days I'd quote the Sale of Goods Act to them!
You could also look here (though I couldn't see a link to 'faulty goods'.

That's not right in my opinion as i had to send 2 LE40B650 tv's back to Amazon at NO extra cost to me as they were faulty!! It may be the policy of your retailer to charge for returns but i'm sure if you fight this given the other info provided above by Electroman you may well get a result. Both the TV's i sent back were at most 6days old and the 2nd one went back the next day it was that bad and i wasn't charged for either return.
Just out of interest what is wrong with your TV? My first LE40B650 had severe clouding in the top 2 corners of the screen and the 2nd one had several pixels that were always lit ie: always bright white. I gave up in the end and went for a Sony 40W5500 instead and even then i had to take the first one back with severe clouding again, the replacement is excellent however!
