Four months ago i bought a NAD C 545 BEE cd to use a source. Since day one i felt there was something missing in the sound and i blamed my speakers for it. The general sensation was very strange bass behavior, no bass extension, bright and harsh sound. Yesterday i received a MA RX6 on loan (which are fantastic) and felt they were lacking bass???.So i started playing with the only variable i hadn't explored, the source, and connected a Phlips DVD player instead of the 545 with amazing results. Bass is more present now, no harshness what so ever and now rock music sounds with more body. It's like if a sonic hole has been filled. Can i assume that my 545 unit is faulty ?

Most definitely! The Nad neither lacks in bass nor is harsh in the treble, quite the opposite in fact.

Take it back - the retailer's under no obligation to replace it (repair will be their likely offer) but you never know. The good one's will have a listen to it, realise it's probably a bit of a lemon, and let you have a new one for goodwill.

Thank you guys.

The dealer responded,

It may be faulty because those are not the characteristics of NAD. NAD tends to be a more neutral sound. I would recommend giving NAD a call to see if they can diagnose anything. I am not familiar with your equipment so it is difficult for me to say how it will mesh with your speakers and amp and cables and if what you are hearing is normal with your current setup. The phone number you would need to call is 1.800.263.4641 and they are the North America distributor.
