Hello guys,

2 important questions. First of all - why are so many decks recently only manual and does it really improve sound quality ? If so , how ? Secondly , the end of record , the needle goes to the outer groove and you're already sleeping...it spins for about 8 hours ( and 12 after the party...lol ) how the MM or MC is impacted by this ? Is it really damaging for the stylus ?

Regards.

That takes me back...!

Unless the run out groove is unusually 'violent' it is no different to x hours of music. Relax.

There is a lots of gubbins to engineer into a decent auto deck, and this is why they are quire rare. Dual were the masters in their day - great arm quality, belt, idler and direct drive turntables, and auto start/stop. Even the basic ones would lift off. You could also buy add on hydraulic thingies that would pop up when the arm accelerated towards the middle. Audio Technica made them, and there were probably others.

I guess you could set the alarm on your phone?

Thanks. So that eased me a bit. Hehe , yeah phone is good true but I like intentionally fall asleep while listening to it, I know about the pop up thingies like Q-up etc. really useful , right.

More for amusement than rude critism - buy yourself a CD player or listen to vinyl as it should be listened to. 🙂

I removed my auto-mechanism - too many cams and bands for my taste. Playing the centre grove will not improve longevity of the stylus!

Yep, that's also true.

Hows that then? During most of my childhood and youth we danced and/or sang along whenever we played our records (or were in clubs). 'Air guitar' too.

How did (do) you listen to yours?

A well designed auto trip won't affect sound quality, no. Just like tone controls don't affect sound quality, and interconnects and mains stuff and all the other silly myths that have sprung up in the hifi loony world. Don't get me started on valves in CD players.

Not sure whether it would be any better, but a simple mains timer set to an hour would at least power everything down and bring the platter to rest. I use a simple push button one when ever I charge a battery because I often forget and it avoids charging them for 48 hours straight.

Great and simple solution
