Hi all,

Im thinking about changing my amp to something that better suits the 685s and my musical tastes.

I had a side-by-side demo of the RA-06SE, NAD 326 and my PM6003, and liked both new amps, though would have liked to try the 355 if they had had it in stock. The Rotel had an awesome soundstage with great separation(what I was trying to achieve by switching amps) and it just sounded effortless for the Rotel to play complex passages, but I was immediately taken aback by the 326's punchy sound, I much prefer this to an overly smooth one.

A) I know the 685s like to have a powerful amplifier matched with them (more so than the Marantz) so am looking at 50w/ch as a minimum. Though in the latest Whathifi mag it recommends the RA-04SE (40w/ch) with the speakers, is that amp able to get the best out of the 685s?

My dealer is selling the RA-06SE for £499 and although this is a reduction from RRP I still don't want to pay that much as I wasn't completely blown away, it was better and I liked it but I didnt feel it was worth the extra outlay.

B) If I were to buy an amp off ebay such as the RA-04/se and added a power amp to bi-amp, do you get both the integrated and power amps power output (40w+70w for example) or do you just get the 70w from the power amp (RB03/06). Newbie question

My other options are the NAD 325,352,355

Im sure I can sell my PM6003 for about £200(perfect condition) so wouldn't to put any more than £50 on top of that for an amp from ebay.

C)Finally is the RC-03/RB-03 and RC-06/RB-06 the same as the RA-03 and RA-06 but in two boxes? The same components/sound etc?

Thanks for reading and any advice and answers to A, B and C would be much appreciated.

If I were you I'd stick with the NAD C326BEE integrated.

It's a stunning amp for it's price and it really does kick out some welly

The Rotel's seem to get good reviews but I dont feel that the Rotel RA-04SE will be that much better then the original model and with that, not as good as the NAD C326BEE. More so when it comes to driving the B&W 685's.

I'd also consider changing your speaker cable to Chord Carnival Silverscreen... The QED is good cable but the Silverscreen will give you a better, more rounded soundstage and deeper, tauter bass IMO

Thanks Dan,

I will look at how cheap I can get the 326.

Has anyone gone from a NAD 325 to the 326? Was there a big difference/improvement?

The 325 is available for under £200 from ebay so it is tempting. Cheapest Ive seen the 326 for is £259.Anyone seen it cheaper?

Thanks

There are a few for sale currently on eBay and other hifi related forums...

I've been quoted £250 for it from SightandSoundUK in Preston
