extending speaker cables.

What do you mean? Do you mean add bits on to existing lengths to make them longer? Then no, don't do that. Buy new longer lengths.

beater:is it o.k to extend existing speaker cables.

I've done it with my rear speakers and they sound fine. I wouldn't ever do it for my stereo speakers but I had all my surround speakers cable (cheap thin stuff) channeled into my walls and then decorated. I bought a new rack and the cables weren't long enough. It's very simple to do - I've only known how everything connects up for a year and I managed it. Try and buy the same cable or one that is the same thickness (if you have decent thick stuff it might be more difficult), twist the ends and join to the new length and tape over with some pvc tape.

I'm assuming that mine works ok in that if there was a problem there would be drop outs and a bad sound - I don't get that.

Fair enough. I tried it once on one of my rear channels but it didn't sound good. Could've been down to mismatched cables. I guess that if you are going to try it you should make sure to use the same brand/size.

I was sceptical and it might be that my cable is thin and easy to twist and join to the other length. I had the little A10 Jamo speakers and the cable came with the package. I bought a new length from Richer Sounds that was identical in diameter and look and I now have my R90s connected to them.

Extending speaker cables means breaking the Law. But it can be done without telling anyone even yourself. Extend your existing cable to a same quality new one, use a high standard connection plug. Make sure that every single of wire inside the coat is not break or dismiss.

Perfect extension will make you satisfy. You can hide the connection, forget what you have done, and never tell anyone.
