My beloved Arcam CD192 is on its way out, and the first stage of my upgrading plan should be arriving on Tuesday.

matengawhat:really i'm surprised whats going to replace it - thought you would never get past the arcams

Unison Research Unico CDE. Ex-review player at approx half price, in immaculate condition. I want a DAC facility for internet radio and Spotify and none of the Arcams offer this facility, and I decided I want to cut down my box count rather than add to it. I may also sell my tuner as the reception in my flat is rubbish so it's never used. Then next upgrade will be a single box amp, albeit a very nice one in a year or two's time.

I like the idea of using Spotify to find new music, and then buying what I really like on CD for serious listening, and I may even try streaming lossless. 40 next year, mid-life crisis and all that.

I may even go out and buy myself some Merrydown/Thunderbirds...

sure it will sound fantastic if you can't see it - i really like tube/valves and the sound they add to cdp - i love my mf dac - the extra warmth it adds is very pleaseing to accoustic/vocals ect - just seems to add a little two much distortion to rock for me and i go bast to solid state

"I may even try streaming lossless"

I'm going to have a drink to toast that comment!

Yes, at 40 your ears have probably aged enough not to notice the difference.

I often have a look for one but I'm not paying £500 for a used one. When I have that to spend I shall convert another Quad to have a mono pair. My next move is 6-8m of speaker cable to fit our new house...Chord Odyssey 2...ouch...

i bought two 5m runs of odyssey 4 but have recently knocked a wall out in my lounge and could do with a little more but not at that price so trying to work out where to put stuff for min further outlay

I am really interested in this thread and would love to hear what you think Joel when you get the CD player in place.

Only this week i re-read all the reviews i have of the Unison Unico CDE player and the amps with a view to maybe getting a demo at some stage. A recent work promotion leaves me thinking this could be a nice reward upgrade for me.

So do tell what you think v the Arcam - i am keen to know. I love the look of the Unison and may (after a load of house decorating) get a chance to look into this. That said there is nothing wrong with my current system - im just being greedy really.

I'm greedy too but you have to strike while you can, and I've just received some insurance money and she wants streaming...

What's a fella to do.

I will report back on my findings. It sounds to ÿmy taste in all the reviews, as Chebby would say as smooth as chocolate. And to which my reply would be yes, but which chocolate Chebby.

£1,375 for an ex-review sample in immaculate nick with a 2 year warranty, RRP is about £2,500

def worth it especially with the extra dac inputs

will be interesting to hear your thoughts on lossless through same dac as a comparison - as idon't think massive differnce between my cdp and the wadia - its very close

Well, we'll see...

I quite fancy getting the matching amp too but I think 'er indoors would go mad, plus the fact I can't afford it really.ÿ
