When I turn my TV/Sky HD/Amp on there is an constant high pitched humming/whistling noise. Assume this is pretty common but does anyone know what it is and how it can be stopped?

Cheers

A poor Earth is often the culprit on the Mains.

And Ground loops. Switch each piece of equipment on seperately, see which one (if any) is generating the noise.

Will check tonight but I think the noise is coming from the TV. If it is, do you know how I could stop it?

Is it possible (advisable) to earth some equipment yourself? Presume a simple single wire touching a metal chassis bit that then touches the ground? Is that safe? Would it do the trick?

Questions,
When did it start?

Is it the TV?

How old is the Unit that's making the noise?

Always start by checking the obvious, are the plugs in good condition, connections true and tight inside the plugs.
Tidy runs of cables, NOT running alongside speaker cables etc.

Is your 13A socket overloaded with too many things plugged into it, ditto the ring main.

PS Just got an E Mail from Russ Andrews today £50 for a Classic Powerkord special offer, might be just what you need.

Using a Philips LCD.

There are metres of main/speaker/interconnects jammed behind the TV bench so that probably doesnt help and have four things plugged into the Tacima extension.

Sorting out your cables will be a big help in getting rid of your problem.
Likely that you have big electrical interference due to this mess.
