one off .... never said it wont work, but to summarise the post:....

To conclude then : For conventional class AB amplifiers the use of 4 ohm speakers greatly increases amplifier heating compared to when using 8 ohm loads - even if the maximum output currents are kept the same by exercising restraint with the volume control.

dim span didnt mean anything bad just worried the op might be getting put off what sounds like a terrific setup

many fine speakers are 4 ohm and yes amps may run hotter but if there rated for 4 ohm theres nothing to worry about

also many 8 ohm speakers are actually around the 6 ohm mark and that doesnt cause problems with 8 ohm only rated amps

i have a pure class a amp which runs very hot because of the design and has done since day 1 currently going into 4 ohm speakers no problems

lazarus:Does Whathifi have an opinion on this?lazarus check with yamaha or your dealer too but honestly this is a nothing and not worth worrying about since your amp can be connected to both 4 and 8 ohm loads

they even quote the output going into 4 ohm loads so its fine

I quickly looked up ur receiver spec- it seems like it is one notch above my mid-range onkyo receiver. I would guess it wud be perfectly safe to drive ur speakers @ 4 ohms....jfyi
