Alright, since I'll be replacing my Acoustic Energy AE3 speakers by next year, I thought I would take this opportunity and scratch my upgrade itch a bit and did a little tweak on my speakers.

In my small listening room the boomy bass from these speakers were always a problem, so I got out my screw driver and opened up the back. Not daring to open up the drivers and feeling my way inside the cabinet via terminal I was quite surprised to find a very simple enclosure with basically lots of polyester fillings, except the bass enclosure which was only loosely filled and moving about. So I went and bought more fillings of the same material and basically doubled the amount.

And now, there's no boominess, no one note resonance, but even and quick. I might keep these around a little longer...

most cabs are simple pal. making more internals, and having them fit as perfectly and ridgidly as one would expect is difficult on mass production. air tight tollerences are hard to maintain. the box need not be complex to support a cones function anyway. its job is quite simple. There are complex designs such as transmission lines but thats cabinet making in another light. Many such as the well known rtl3's are not tansmission lines at all, but infact quarter wave pipes. Thats complex enough.

wadding can increase effective box volume by up to 40% which moves the resonent frequency downwards which has perhaps suited your environment better. You have also damped them as you can imagine
