HI,

I intend to upgrade my speaker. the choices is from audiogon and out of town. so i can't demo them. So I need advice about thoe speaker. I look for the most punchy. and agility (or speed?) other character are secondary. the 1.3 mkII is 1400 usd and the s r cost me 1700 usd.

any advice apreciated. tq

cheers

The 1.3 MkII is a better speaker. It is larger with a bigger drive unit, so you will get more bass. It is the old version of the Contour S 1.4. The S R is designed for Home Cinema surround use.

The price you quote for 1.3 MkII is very high. Normally in the UK they sell for £600-700.

I intend to use the S R with subwoofer a deftech supercube 1 as long as they are punchier or has more attack than the 1.3. so i don't mind the bass extension as i check to be only 85hz.
both are birds eye maple so, is 1.3 still too high?

I also read that the SR can be used as main speaker what are the drawback in those config.

thanks for the quick response.

You won't need a sub with 1.3 MkII's, and music will sound better than the tiny S.R's plus a home-cinema sub like the def tech.

For home cinema use where audio isn't critical you would get away with the little speakers and the sub. Where main-speaker bass only goes down to 85 Hz you really want two subs, or it will sound lop-sided (higher bass frequencies are more directional).

$1400 is too much regardless of colour. These are old speakers now, and they probably cost about that when they were new. Are you in the US? I'm not sure about prices over there, but £700 or £750 would be top money here.

I am in Indonesia, maybe becoz I am buying with a second hand merchant. not a direct user.
Yes I also read that around 80 Hz the bass start to be directional. But when I demo a zingali with a rel b3 sub, it is seamless and when i check the zingali they can only get down around 160 hz!!

its true that 1.3 is an old speaker so thats why i also tend to consider S R more. but only if they are punchier faster and has more attack than the 1.3

I just text the 1.3 seller they go down to usd 1350. still confused.

Prices may be high in your part of the world, I don't know. I don't like sat/sub setups for music, but you may find them acceptable.

Dynaudios are smooth and laid-back in my experience, rather than fast and punchy.

In reading forums elsewhere the 1.3 mk II can bottom out in the Bass if the volume is very loud - but if you cross them over with a subwoofer @ 80Hz you'll be fine. The SRs are smaller surround speakers, so go with the 1.3 mk IIs. I think the price is ok in your part of the world, in the US they are around $1100 - $1200 secondhand. The 1.3 SE is a much better speaker and are about $1600+ in the US - try and get those. The Birds-eye maple finish is especially nice - I've seen it on the SE but wasn't aware you could get the mkII in that finish also.

The first impression after hooking up were a better bass, with haydn it is a bit colored n bloated although no overhang.
Now i can feel more punch. When i cranked up thevolume i didnt find bottom outting. Unexpectedly was the harshing treble thst i encounter first
The1.3 is refined and smooth. Vocsl Imaging is deeper than haydn.
What i like d most is bass definition n Its swiftness.

Next upgrade is with roksan caspian m. Or leema tucana 2
Maybe in a year. After my kidney grow back with my arm n leg.

Oh they are right, this speaker did not help polishing bad record very much.
