Hi,

My old Sony CRT TV is on the way out, so I'm planning to replace it with a plasma or LCD set soon.

I understand that the first DVB-T HD transmissions will begin in some parts of the country in December 2010, so I want to make sure that whichever TV I buy will be capable of receiving the Freeview HD transmission 'out of the box' or at least have upgradable firmware (NOT Freesat).

However, I can't find any information about this.

Does anybody know if there are any such TVs available at the moment or in the pipeline?

So is there any news about the possibility of upgrading existing sets?

I'm sure the TV card in my PC is capable of receiving terrestrial HD signals, so it should theoretically be possible to upgrade the firmware in existing TVs or at least ones coming out in advance of the switch-on.

It seems absolutely crazy to be forced into buying yet another set-top box.

None of the current TVs can receive DVB-T2 HD. Nor can they be upgraded. You will need a seperate Freeview HD box or a new TV. First boxes will be out in the New Year. For the World Cup, (summer 2010) there should be 50% national coverage for ITV HD and BBC HD on Freeview. They are targeting the main urban areas first (Londom, Bham, Manchester..)
