Does a top line amp need to be matched to top line speakers to see it true quality?

Hi,

I am buying a new amp but if I was to raise the bar and go for a higher spec model - eg. Yamaha RXV1900, would you get real sound value out of this higher end amp using my current speakers which when compared to the amp would not be of the same high end quality, (albeit good speakers).

TDL RTL3s floorstanders as fronts and Wharfedale Diamonds 9.1, 9.1 CS and SW150 completing the 5.1.

I do not want to change the speakers (I love the RTL3s) - so will I see improved sound performance from a higher end amp using not so higher end speakers, when compared to a lower spec amp.

Or would I need to upgrade the speakers to get real value out of the high end amp (which i am not prepared to do)

Thanks

I certainly think a better amp will get more out of your speakers!

For sure if you have a better amp you will benefit from better speakers but an improved amp will still improve the sound.
