Hi everyone,

Sorry if this seems obvious however I'm a beginner!

I am looking to set up a 2 ch. system with integrated amp, speakers, and turntable. That bit I understand.

However, I was wondering if you needed to go out and get a CD/Network streaming unit (for example the new Yamaha CD-N301) for streaming music from your PC and playing CDs, or:

1. Could you just connect a decent blu-ray player which can cope with CDs and is DLNA certified etc (for example Pioneer BDP-450)?

2. Or just not bother with CDs and add on something like the Yamaha YBA-11 Bluetooth receiver and use that to stream with?

To be honest, out of a finite budget I would rather spend more on an better amp and better blu-ray player and better speakers than have to get a CD player/streaming unit out of the same amount of money as well but I don't know enough to really say.

What do you all think?

Hi Dominic,

i use an Oppo unit to stream from a nas and play from a connected hard drive. From a sound quality point of view it is excellent.

Less so for convenience. It is limited in making playlists etc.

if quality of playback is more important to you, or you don't need the bluray to form a random party mix, using the player as a streamer can be an excellent option.

Hi,

Thanks very much, I think that would be the best option as I don't really need playlists etc. it is more sound quality.

But yes no point in buying a dedicated streamer if I can a similar quality from a blu-ray player which I would have to buy anyway.
