do nad stereo amps work with av receivers ??

the reason im asking is because i done a bit of googling on how to set up my nad c326 with my yamaha rxv765 , and found a thread on another forum that suggests that removing one of the jumpers on the rear of the nad , to allow the yammy to connect to the "main in" then decouples something , basically turning the nad into just a power amp , it wont then allow the connection of a cd player , or at least wont recognise it , no sound ..

this makes sense , last night it took me ages to get the cd player working through the nad , connections are yam out to aux in on the nad , bluray player to cd in ..but no fronts with movies...

whereas if i connect yam to main in , movies are fine , but no sound from cds through the nad ??

im starting to think the nad just isnt compatible with home cinema , i tried yam to "video" on the nad , again no sound with movies , do i have to take my nad back for something that doesnt shut down once the jumpers are removed ? as they seem to need to be for movies [:#]

max the NAD should work, if set up the way i described on your other thread. It doesn't actually matter what line level input's you use on the NAD provided it's not the "phono" inputs (if it has them).

Your correct removing the links and connecting to the main ins decouples the Pre-amp section of the NAD, turning it into a power amp and essentially making it useless for use as an stereo intergrated amp for listening to music.

I suspect the issue lies with either the set-up/connections from the Yamaha...

There is absolutely nothing to stop the NAD working as you wish. This is down to a simple connection error.

Let's break it down.

You have a pair of phono cables running from the Yamaha to the NAD. What does it say above the sockets you have used on the Yamaha?

Now, what it does it say above the sockets you have connected the other end to on the NAD?

front left and right pre outs on the yam , tried with every thing else on the nad bar the power socket

bluray player to cd in on the nad , which seems to work fine , depending on which combination of the above 345643326 combos ive settled on at the time

to get sound from movies , i need the yam in the "main in" on the nad , otherwise theres no sound from the fronts with movies , but i have to remove a jumper for that , thus rendering the amp essentially a power amp only , it wont detect the cd in then , so movies but no cd sound ..

going from yam to "aux in" as davey suggested allows the nad to play cds , but i get nothing from movies , ive tried everything , other forums found the same issues ..

front left and right pre outs on the yam , Well that's correct, so what input are those currently connected to on the NAD?

EDIT-Just seen you're using AUX, so that should be ok too... Did you select the AUX input on the NAD, select a memorable volume level on the NAD ?

ive tried video , aux , they are all fine apart from with movies , that has to be "main in" , which means removing the jumpers , which means no cd audio through the nad ...

the only time the auto set up on the yam detected fronts was with the yam connected to "main in" but that disables cd playback , its rediculous...

matthewpiano:OK, so with the cables plugged into the 'Aux' input on the NAD and the 'Aux' input selected on the NAD's front panel it should work.nope , nothing ..

I guess it's because the NAD volumecontrol is set to low for the yamaha's calibrationsystem. Try turning the nad up completely.

This may be a stupid question, but did you connect the nad to the yamaha's "7 channel pre-out" or did you use a "2nd zone pre-out"? (that would explain some issues)

and maybe you should try disconnecting the bluray from the nad when using the bluray's hdmi-audio-out. It might be conflicting.

matthewpiano:I'd say half way rather than completely, just for safety's sake.

shouldn't be a problem. A power amp always works on fullpower and that Yamaha receiver has 90watt poweramps or something like that.

with yam connected to aux in , the yam wont auto setup , error , no fronts , guys ive tried a yamaha auto setup now with every possible combination , only when the yam is connected to "main in" does the thing work , but then , because of needing to remove the jumpers , theres no nad involvement , it doesnt recognise any external input .. try googling "how do i connect an av receiver to a stereo amp" read others issues , the first one is exactly like mine ...

Good.

bluray player to cd in on the nad

Why? Do you use it for CD playback?
yes , its not an issue , i set the yam to output stereo and the nad kicks in , the yam does nothing ..

Yes but how is the blu-ray player connected to the AV amp?

All the NAD is doing is receiving a signal. It can't differentiate whether that signal is coming from a CD player or from the pre-outs of an AV receiver.

The NAD amp is NOT the issue here.

Where have you got the volume control set on the NAD when you do the auto calibration? It needs to be turned up.
