DIY MAINS CABLE

I have decided to have ago at making my own mains cables.[😀]

(I don't want to get into the silly argument on dirty mains ) [🙁]

I need three mains cabbles in total, one for me linn pre amp and two more for me power amps. After doing a some research I have decided on using these materials listed below ,all can be bought of ebay

Reference Inline Silver Plated mains 13 amp Plug £16.99 each

Wattgate 320i Silver Plated version £30.00 each

Neech Audio Shielded Power Cable £04.00 per meter

WBT Silver Solder £17.50 a 10 meter real.

Teflon Clear Sleeve Tubing £05.00 a meter.

This works out to about £60.00 per mains cable a total of £180.00 for three cables. I will take photos whilst constructing these cables to help and incourage others to do the same and report back to this forum on the contructing results the quality of the products and a sound test.

( Just rember that no system can sound better than the playback of a recording)

Nice one darrell. Please post pictures of your work. I would save money on the solder and buy lead solder. Silver was only brought in for 'environmental' reasons and will result in long term reliability issues as silver solder suffers from tin whiskers as the solder corrodes and comes apart.

The MK Tough Plug is also excellent and far cheaper.

.. and not to mention the fact that silver solder is a pain to use

terminating the ends of the power cord conducters,it will make a better finish.

I used VDH the contact solution on the DIY Supra mains cable copper contact I made.

But used ordinary 3 pin UK plug and IEC socket.

Thanks for the input guy's, I seem to be getting a feed back from others experiance that it is better to place the larger sum of the budget on a mains conditioner and not so much on the cables and plugs.

So I might rebudget and get some cheaper components for this diy project.
