I usually just prop a cover up against the bookshelf or rack when playing a record. Simples. It really never crossed my mind to do it otherwise, not now and not the first time round I’ve collected, many years ago.

My partner recently showed me some ‘playing now’ stands on Amazon. We both had a look but did not like any. Thought a moment about it and found this little A frame easel. She’s happy. I can’t say it changed my life but hey … .

What do you use (or are you like me and don’t care much about such things?)

I would say I don't care but, I do have Foobar2000 set to display the album cover on my screen, which I suppose, implies I do care, a bit.

If I wanted a stand for a CD, I would go out to my shed and make one.

Great for live albums, as you can pretend you are there as you stare at a picture the other side of the room. Just to complete the set-up, I suggest you queue for 20 minutes to go to your own toilet. Then queue by the fridge, before taking a cold can out and leaving £10 note on the shelf. Ah, that live music experience. Can't beat it.
