i haven't read much of this thread (too long), but for a while i couldn't think of a reason why digital transports could possibly sound different. then i found http://lampizator.eu/LAMPIZATOR/TRANSPORT/CD_transport_DIY.html i haven't read all the way through it, but it seems to offer very good reasons for transports sounding different and offers photos of various transports on an oscilloscope, by way of proof.

it would seem that optical toslink is so broken, it will never be good for audio.

it would also seem that sp/dif coax isn't much better.

i'm going to have the cyrus cd xtse and dacx on home dem soon, the purpose being to see if i can hear a difference between the xtse and my mac as a transport. after reading the above site, it seems i will just be trying two different versions of brokeness.

....... the rest of the process is no different to processing any other data, you dont see your photos degrading in quality as you transfer them around, nor do your word documents magically change as you copy them to and from the hard drive......

That argument has been put forward on a number of occasions, you are the first person that I can recollect who has put forward an explanation as to why it is the case, keep up the good work
