Devialet Phantom - Anyone Heard this yet?

It looks interesting, a bit of a lifestyle product and I'm not sure how it's going to live up to their marketing departments hype.

I guess that doesn't matter so much to the people who do their hifi shopping in John Lewis.

Harrods Darling, Harrods..😉

They're only available from Harrods or Devialet and the original shipping date has slipped back to March. Everyone from the press who has heard them say they're remarkable and I'm extremely intersted in hearing them when they become a bit wider available. I think actives are the future for me.

It looks like one of those robot vacuum cleaners. Do you iphantom?

The Phantom has a high WAF indeed!

Sorry, I mean: it's a case of form follows function!

interesting looking thing. Wonder how the dyed in the wool hifi enthusiasts are going to embrace the amount of digital signal processing going on it?

Be interesting to hear one.

If it sounds anything like the sound that comes from Devialet Amplifiers, there is absolutely nothing to fear.

I heard the 750W version (single speaker and stereo pair) on the 23rd of January at Devialet's headquarters in Paris, using my own music files (FLAC, see below for the tracks used).

As I live ~10,000km away, I needed first-hand (well, "first-ear") experience before making a decision.

Long story short, a pair will be ordered in the next few days, I might go for the 3000W ones given the "modest" price difference.

Here are YouTube clips of the songs tested:

- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CLVNkPQdXE (this one was simply beautiful)

Definitely go for the 3000w version.

What system do you have now and how does it compare to the Phantoms?

Cheers

Matt

Got a pair of Dynaudio Focus 200XD lined up for a weeks trial.

Well, my current system is quite nice and straightforward:- Sources : SONOS Connect (fixed volume) and satellite TV set-top box - DAC: Matrix Audio Mini-i Pro - Speakers: two ADAM Audio ARTist 6s and a Sub7 from the same manufacturer (85Hz high-pass filter). - Cables: bog standard stereo RCA cables from the satellite box to the Sub7, XLR cables between the Mini-i and Sub7 as well as from the Sub7 to the ARTIST 6s. While they might not be in the same "league" as the Phantoms, this is a setup that I can recommend to anybody looking for something around the EUR 1,500 mark (if you get a good deal on the speakers). The Phantoms will likely replace them while they get reasigned to my other house (I was also considering Event Opals and Genelec 8260As, or ADAM's Classic Column but I do not know if they still make those following the takeover). P.S.: sorry but it seems that something went wrong with the message's formatting, now everything is cobbled into a single block...

As small subs need a lot of power to dig deeper than they really should, I would guess it would be the same for the Phantoms, so those that want the deepest bass possible would be wise to consider the more powerful option.

Thanks for the reply. Please let us know how the Phantoms perform and post some pics *biggrin*
