Denon Receiver Vs.... is there anything?

It strikes me as a bit odd that there doesn't seem to be much out there to compete with Denon Receivers this year. I mean, up to £500, the Denon 1910 gets the WHF Group Test win, ditto for the Denon 2310 up to the £1000 price point. Between £1001 and £1999, WHF shows the 'slightly old now' Sony STR5400 as being "comfortably the best at this price point", yet another magazine filled this same price gap in October with the Denon 4310 as "the best sub-£2000 home cinema receiver on the market" (which WHF haven't yet reviewed). Over £2000, we're back with the Denon AVC-A1HDA taking the crown.

What is there in the pipeline to compete? Or should Yamaha, Sony, Onkyo et al just call it quits, turn off the lights, and lock the factory gates having sent everybody home? Surely somebody must have something competitive this season?

PS: Andy: Today's home page article "exclusive" on the Denon 2310 is still saying £900.

I have just purchased the Marantz SR-6004 which I love. Marantz is the sister company to Denon so I imagine it competes well with the Denon 2310.

Interesting trend you've spotted there wireman. A couple of years back it was all Onkyos, and before that Yamaha. These things do tend to go in cycles.

Still lots of new receiver reviews to come in our Awards issue - it's far from being a one-horse race this year
