Valian TX.

I too moved up from a panasonic DMP-BD35 to the Denon 2500BT.

It beats the Panasonic hands down, the PQ and SQ on my Sony are fantastic.

Just added a Russ Andrews Powerkord to the Denon and can see and hear a further improvement.

Enjoy.

I'll bet you can see the difference too mate! I use an upgraded mains cable too - just brilliant!! My other half can't stop telling me how fantastic this machine is, and this from a person who still can't operate the a/v equipment after been given lessons for a year!!

I picked up my 'new' Denon DVD-2500BT yesterday evening from Middlesex. It is in premium silver and is immaculate - looks brand new, in the orginal box etc. It also has a remainder 13 months warranty on it.

The gentleman I bought this item from has upgraded to a Denon DBP- 4010UD blu-ray player and has a Denon AVP- A1HDA amplifier. His TV is a Pioneer Kuro KRP-500A and a substantial M&K Home Cinema System - this was so high-end it made me feel really inadequate with my system!!

The first thing that strikes you about this blu-ray player is the sheer size of it - it's a brute of a machine (just how I like it!). It weighs about 10kgs and the fit and finish is impeccable. The build quality oozes with sophistication and solidity.

When I brought it back home and compared it to my Panasonic DMP-BD35, I was astounded by how tiny and flimsy the BD35 looked in comparison - I knew it was going to be small, but how small exactly was quite a shock.

The Denon is almost the size of my Onkyo TX-SR605. My TV rack has now become too small to hold both equipments that they're both edging out - looks like another upgrade.

So, let's see what the fuss is all about - astounding pure a/v performance is what this Denon screams at you! I put in a blu-ray with bated breath ...... loading time is slow, but not painfully slow - at least not to me. This was never an issue for me anyway.

When the movie played, we were all gobsmacked!!! It took just a few minutes to realise that this was indeed a formidable piece of equipment - sharpness, clarity and vibrancy. You know you have it right when your other half exclaims - 'Wow - look at that, I don't think I've seen that before', 'I can see so much more detail now', 'I cannot believe the colour'......this went on every few seconds throught the 20 minutes I played the movie.

The colour was indeed glorious - the glossy sheen on the screen just made everything stand out much more than before. The colour palette is magnificent. The detail resolution on this is unbelievable - this is what it majors in, simply remarkable. Panning of scenes and motion is also a lot smoother than the BD35.

The sound is also more substantial and weighs on solidity and dynamics - everything suddenly had more of an oomph in it and even the bass was deeper and tighter.

Black and white levels - out of this world, truly. I thought it was pretty black before but this took it to a whole new different level. And we're talking about my screen which isn't even Full HD and is almost 3 years old!

So, a brilliant AV purchase that I'm absolutely overjoyed about, especially at the price I got it for - truly happy!

Everything else aside Valian glad you like your purchase

Gobsmacked sums up how I felt when I had one home on dem against my PS3

the biggest difference tfor me was the sound so I eventually bought one after the WHF awards was issued as I knew I would not be happy with anything else.

As you said its built like a tank and has far more quality than anything else , Pioneer LX91 and top end Sony excepted

I am changing to a RA powercord as it seems to suit this player but cant try it out as my cinema room is being decorated and all my kit is boxed up

Great price you got it for ,and even the price you can now buy it for has got to be a bargain, as long as you dont need a fast loader or BDlive

Yes, even at it's current new price, it IS an absolute bargain. I mean, it's far superior in PQ & SQ to the latest machines out there, bar the Pioneer BDP-LX71 and Sony BDP-S5000ES, as you rightly pointed out.

I wonder if I should give the Russ Andrews Classic PowerKord a try? It's going for £76.50 (usual price £135.00) and comes DCT treated and fitted with a W320i wattgate. Sounds like a great offer!

Jase says it's fantastic!

A good 'initial impressions' review and an equally good choice on the Denon 2500BT, an exceptional product.

That's a substantial investment in mains cables - what differences have they made?

ValianTX - just wondered did you get a chance to compare it against the Pioneer BDP-LX52? As this seems to be around the same price at the moment and would be interested to know (as would quite a few others judging by other posts!).

Okay thanks. I'm going to audition the Pioneer against the Sony BDP-S5000ES at some point just to see what your extra £500 gets you, but, despite all the praise heaped on the Denon, I'm just not sure I can bring myself to get a player without the Profile 2.0 facility - something tells me as Blu-Ray matures this is going to be a sticky point for future discs with more and more firmware updates needed for the Denon to get round them...

Then again, maybe I should wait and see what the new players this year bring. I just have itchy feet at the moment now I've got the Kuro TV knowing my current Sony BD player isn't cutting the mustard with it!

A little tip for you Professorhat in my opinion not last year but the year before was a great year for blu ray player's from manufacturers. and the Sony BDP-S5000ES did come into that great year as far as I can remember. The Sony certainly tick's all the boxes, I bet it's highly impressive.

That's one concern that bothers me too professorhat, and to me a very valid issue that others who 'bang on' about how great the Denon 2500 is seem to overlook. Yes, I've got a 2500 and think it's great too, but this point you raise is a worry... I'm just hoping my 2500's firmware continues to be updated, being as it is at the end of its' marketable life... at least for as long as it takes until we're simply downloading movies and discs are all but redundant.

I have Professor. Infact, it was a 3 way with the Sony BDP-S760, Pioneer BDP-LX52 and the Denon DVD-2500BT.

Picture quality

The Sony, I felt did not really provide any upgrade to my BD35. The Pioneer was good, but the colours were a little too 'warm' for my taste. I had a 51FD and I don't think the 52 is any better, frankly - I chose to keep my BD35 then.

The Denon gave me exactly what I was looking for - a major upgrade to my BD35.

Picture sharpness, vibrancy, clarity - I was seeing details I never saw before and I so love the build quality of it. It looks like such a high-end machine, compared to the Sony and Pioneer.

Sound quality

All three were better than the BD35, but again, the Denon had the edge - the weight and solidity behind every element of sound going through the speakers were articulate and very well defined.

Note : I do feel personally though, that a Pioneer blu-ray player works best with a Pioneer display.

ValianTX:That's a substantial investment in mains cables - what differences have they made?

Hi Valian

You are quite right a helava amount of money but in 2009 I have upgraded my whole system at a substantial cost and after reading Jase's thread and the improvement he says it is making I went for initally 1 Classic PowerKord and 1 PowerMaxT Plus to try them out

Now you'll think I am crazy because I cant tell you the difference at the moment as all my kit is boxed up as my cinema room is waiting for a plasterer as I replaced the windows in there, it also will get a fresh lick of paint.

That said and to mitigate buying the 3 extra cables I used the PowerMaxT Plus on my Panasonic plasma just to burn the cable in ,as it was originally bought for my projector, but the difference it has made to the plasma is noticable , so much so that I cant now go back to the original.cable

As everyone knows the sound on TV sets is very poor so much so that we usually watch SKY with subtitles enabled ,with the RA we no longer need to do so as the vocals are alot clearer and there is some improvement in low freq (not bass)

This was also noticed by my better half so the cable now has to stay on the plasma.

Therefore if the basic cable can make a difference to a c- - - - system I am taking the chance that the higher end cable is justifiable on all my highend kit

So due to the bargain price , the free upgrade to Wattgate and DCT treating I bought one for each piece of kit before the Sale ends

If ,when I can use them and I feel it was not worth the money I can return within 30 days ,if that expires and the price goes back to retail I am confident I could sell them on flea Bay and get my money back

As usual with HiFI it is a case of diminishing returns with upgrding kit.
