Denon DM39 "No CD" issue

Hello!
I've just bought a Denon DM39 on ebay. Most things are working, but it's not recognising CDs, and I'm wondering if that's solvable.
Is it likely to be a lens issue? And is that something I can solve? I know there's much debate about the merits of lens cleaning CDs, alcohol, puffers etc.
Any advice would be welcome. I don't even know how I'd access the lens.

Cleaning might be worthwhile, but I'd expect a very dirty lens to have occasional read issues, not to fail to read all the time. Send it back indeed.

This is why I stated what I did in my first post.
A cleaning disc isn't going to solve a 'no disc' reading assuming it's doing that on different discs and you're not going to get inside to clean / replace the laser unit very easily.
