Another example of great differential in US/Europe pricing of Denon products.

Following are available in amazon.com - Denon DVD-2500BT for $489 and Denon DVD-3800BT for $1099.

US population - 300 million

UK population - 60 million

Taxes and so on aside, with more consumers, the US will get better buying rates compared to smaller countries. The weakening pound has not helped things recently.

US population = 300 million

European population = 730 million

Where should they be cheapest?

Dont think population matters, else everything should be cheaper by 50% but its not. Denon AV receivers are only slightly cheaper (<10%) in US compared to UK/Europe.

The difference in cost in products will vary between different types of products - vision products like plasmas will be different to say an amplifier or a CD player. Obviously a country where there are far more consumers will ship in far higher quantities, and therefore get better rates. This isn't the only reason, but it's one of them.

shipping a product from China to USA or Europe is broadly similar in cost.

In the US, there's been a consumer-driven society for longer, so they're used to a large range of goods with high-product turn over.

You can say all you want about market size and shipping costs, it probably only accounts for a difference of 5-8%. The rest is down to the very simply fact that US consumers wouldn't put up with high prices. We're mugs.

Agree with Big Aura. Guess Denon knows europeans are in awe of its products and will buy regardless. Specially knowing the glowing reviews they seem to get always !
