Okay, so I've hooked the TV up to the Blu-Ray player and thereafter to the Sansui. Connections are HDMI from the TV to the BR player and RCA audio interconnects from there to the stereo amp. It looks like there's a very slight lag in the audio track when played back through the stereo, not an issue with the TV speakers. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

I hook my blu ray to the tv via HDMI and then phono from tv to amp. no delay

I wanted to run my tv through my Beresford but got an annoying lag......

Thanks guys - JD that's a good point. I should check again - I went from memory and assumed it was the way round. Will post again later.

That's how I hook mine up, though I can see from my original post that it appears as if the Blu Ray player is hooked up to the TV and then onto the amp, whereas it's HDMI to the TV and phono cables to the amp. My error.

Yes got that after re-reading, but which way round it is is important in sussing out where the delay is occurring.

Out of interest, does your TV have phono outs? Would probably solve the issue immediately by using them instead of the player.

Yes, it does. Also has optical as well - I'm looking into the possibility of a new amp (shock, horror) which has this connection and replace the Sansui (shock, horror again!) which doesn't.

I had the same problem. Connecting blue ray HDMI to the TV then TV to the amp fixed it.

I have a Panasonic DMR-EX78 DVD recorder and Sony BDP-S370 both connected to our TV with HDMI and both connected to the Beresford DAC (Sony via co-ax digital and Panasonic via optical digital) for stereo audio.

Neither of them exhibit any delay with dialogue whether playing DVDs (either) or using iPlayer (Sony) or playing back recorded programmes from HDD (Panasonic) or when passing sound from terrestrial Freeview programmes through the DAC/hifi instead of TV speakers (Panasonic).

Can you get your hands on a DAC (to borrow) to see if this fixes things? A Beresford 7510 - or similarly priced - DAC would be a lot cheaper than replacing your Sansui.

That's strange, when I connected my tv to the Beresford Caiman via optical I got a delay. Hence my current cable configuration.

If I were to take a wild stab in the dark I would say you are considering a. Harmon Kardon 980

Increment by ten mate. The HK990 offers optical connections and a DAC onboard. Just trying to work this through with Mrs. R_S...might not happen, but, could be a good option.

I think the HK is a fine specked machine. Can't comment on the sound quality though, looks like a beast. A while back Novatech were doing a good price on it. don't know now though. As you can see I have had a little change for the main listening system. The features being offered by the Marantz were looking very appealing. I use an iPad so there were many uses for the Airplay feature. Including the App, TuneIn radio. So I just checked it out on a whim whilst looking at other stuff . I was genuinely surprised by the sound quality of the unit. It sounded good through it's own speakers and brilliant through some Spendor SA1 's which were used to see how it coped. Before listening I was dubious about the amps capability but after it seems they have done a good job on the class D or whatever is under the bonnet.
I don't know what DAC the Marantz uses, but it doesn't seem that different to their 6003. Its CD player is certainly no worse than my previos combo of Cd48 into Caiman. So I've ended up one box down(Marantz cd 48) and now the Beresford looks a bit lonely with only the USB connection. In fact if you consider Chebbys advice on the Beresford, mine might be up for grabs and I will just use the HRT music Streamer from the computer.
So all happy here with the music, good luck with your decisions. If you a going to Bristol we could meet up for a beer.
Happy new year.

My BD & DVD boxes are connected to the Beresford - with optical and coax digital - for audio. (I have nothing - in the way of audio - connected directly to the telly.)

However, there are so many possible permutations involved (different TVs, different DACs or no DACs, different DVD/BD players, analogue or digital audio outputs, connecting to TV, connecting to DVD/BD players etc etc...) that I wouldn't be suprised if my next television or player purchase throws me into the same 'boat' as the record spot. I am just happy it works... for now.

I heard the HK990 last Summer Dave, at The Home Cinema Centre in Edinburgh and was pretty impressed with it. I left, as it happens with the Leema Pulse but it didn't tick quite all the boxes in practice and for the purposes at home now, the HK990 would be a more complete solution.

Apparently, there are some issues over reliability mentioned on some forums, but nothing I've found for the UK. That said, distribution isn't as wide here as for other brands. Even so, I think I'd take my chances and rely on the Sale of Goods Act if things don't pan out well. And if Mrs. R_S agrees...
