DAC for Marantz System?

I have a Marantz CD6002/PM6002 set up with a pair of B&W 685'S which on the whole I am happy with but wondered whether a DAC would further improve the sound as I do still listen to a lot of CD's?

The CD Player has an optical out which I assume would be the route to connect a DAC (apologies - not sure how they work) but the amp only has normal phono inputs - is this a problem?

Also would I really notice a difference to justify the cost and what DAC would anyone recommend?

Thanks

Paul

DACs can make a difference.... but IMO, your setup is properly balanced already... so I don't think your CD player is a weak link... If you were thinking of going the music server route, then I'd suggest an affordable DAC such as the Cambridge Audio DACMagic, Beresford or Musical Fidelity V-DAC... but to be honest, I wouldn't expect any of those to substantially improve the sound of your existing setup...

If the OP went lossless to a DAC, it would be a clear step up from cds from the 6002. I agree about the cd player and the DAC, with the Marantz amp and speakers he has, I don't think you would notice the difference.
