so, i have a Cyrus pair (8 CD SE & 8 xpdQx amp) with some Monitor Audio GX50's speakers. I mainly stream stuff (but don't start me on the flakey airport express nightmare and its drop outs). I'm happy with the nice revealing sound, but the bass hits about as hard as my clock radio speakers. My car stereo seemed better and that just didn't feel right. So i raided the PV1 sub from my home cinema set up and much happier now with what i think of as a more balanced sound. There seems to be little mentioned anywhere of subs with stereo hi-fi set ups, but i'm sure others must do it. some of this is probably driven by my music tastes which are mainly hip hop (9th wonder, MF Doom, Madlib) and Electronic (deadmau5) and seem to need a bit of a thump. I would go as far as saying i'm hearing lower end sounds that just weren't there before without the PV1.

However,

the PV1 feels like overkill, and my home cinema set up is missing it. so considering either a Monitor Audio Radius R370HD or a REL T5. does anyone have a view on which would fit better with the cyrus set up above? I heard while the Radius is good, its really made for AV?? any experiences with either?

Alright mate, I've been through the same thing, have similar set up and done a fair but of research on it.. If you want to go sub route it's pretty much essential to connect through the speaker terminals to keep the same speed and tone as the music.. I tried rel and although they are musical subs I found the one I tried (T3) didn't go low enough and just made the higher bass frequencies sound muddy (presumably ghe T5 isnt much better). The one sub that seems to be very musical, very good value for money and perfect for a hifi setup is a BK Electronics XLS200 or 400 or monolith if you want real mean bass.. I can't say I've heard it but judging by several reviews and tons of owners comments in forums etc I'm convinced its the one for value.. Google it and have a read.. Half the price of main manafacturers of the same spec as they cut out the middle man and order direct.. They ONLY make subs so not like a speaker company dabbling in it.. When I have the cash I will home dem a sub of the same power/size and if I like it ill just buy the BK.. Try and get a home dem of something and let us know how you get on 😀

Get some Devolo Homeplugs and connect the the AEx by Ethernet and turn its wireless capability off. Connect the AEx to your Cyrus DAC/amp by toslink and your dropouts will be history. Been there.

My vote goes to the REL, I have the same issue with Cyrus amp so I listened to REL T7 and for my ears it was very fast, controlled, worm and musical but it was integrated in a HT setup, alot of Cyrus ownersrave on it.
