I worked in the Tech Pubs of Ferguson (remember then). Parts were available for 10 years but we filed all manuals and tech literature.

The current 'Cyrus' isn't even related to the original company. Peter Bartlett headed a management buyout in 2005. Had he not, the whole brand would likely have gone the way of the dodo because IAG who iirc bought Mission from NXT Plc (another of Mission founder Farad Azima's enterprises) presumably didn't want it. Any old documents, microfiches and parts that the 'new' Cyrus thought were obsolete and of no future use were no doubt filed in drawer 101. I'm not sure Cyrus could actually be more honest about explaining the current status quo.

Might be a long-shot, but you could try emailing Stan Curtis, founder-director of Mission, via his website

As he was the designer of some of these products, he might be able to help.

(Sorry if this is too sensible a suggestion amidst all the finger-pointing and name-calling ;-) )

Yes, how dare you come up with something helpful. - What kind of a place do you think this is?

So rude.

A quick Google reveals a Cyrus audio price list from 2014 with a price (£225) for servicing earlier amps including the 1 and 2.

I'm almost certain I read a magazine article (HFC?) in the last year or 2 in which the author had his Cyrus 1 serviced by the manufacturer and he was chuffed with the result.

Has something happened recently to make Cyrus deny all knowledge of the classic amps?

As the owner of a later "one" for 25 years I'm taking an interest in this discussion. It's still a fantastic amp, and was thinking of freshening it up for use in a second system.

I started off trying to be helpful by suggesting the OP seek-out a model specialist instead of approaching the 'current' Cyrus, who it has been suggested farm-out the servicing of old kit to elsewhere [Richers], probably because they don't have anything left relating to Mission-Cyrus days, which is exactly what they told me more or less. Not sure how that ended up being labelled unhelpful. Usual case in internet-land, if you give someone an answer they don't like, it's unhelpful.

No more unhelpful than my advice to repair it himself and get blown accross the room!

It's just that I'd seen that he'd been inside with switch cleaner and thought he might know what he was doing.

Although I should know better - When Maplin head office was down South, I was one of the 'Get you working' engineers for customers' kits, many of which had to be seen to be believed (soldered with matches, 'birds nest' wiring etc.)

I know Cyrus are often monitoring these threads but tend to not participate.

Perhaps they can make an exception and clarifiy service proceedures and prices of older (and newer) products including any that may not be repairable by cyrus themselves?

They don't have to get involved in the inevitable quabbles on here but for those still using older products and clearly liking them enough to spend money on them to have services done this would be of help no doubt.

I for one have found this very informative, thanks to everyone concerned. At least i have learnt some history surrounding Cyrus, I am shocked to find out Cyrus know nothing about the older componants they sold under the original company Mission/Cyrus. I would have thought all old design imformation would have been passed over to the new Cyrus company when it was sold.

I'm amazed that Cyrus dont even service/repair the DAB tuners any more let alone the older kit, it seems the upgrade path for older kit is some what ignored leaving some owners in the cold and turning to other makers which must be costing Cyrus income. Not everyone can afford to replace old with new without the very good upgrade route that Cyrus operate and that I have taken advantage of more than once.

Interested in what Cyrus responce to your Questions would be drummerman.

Quad provide very good customer service my friend blew up his 909! Quad fixed it for £75. I happen to think Cyrus cd players and their dacs are second to none..and if they aren't providing good aftercare service that's a great shame..I would still buy one of their cd players though..does good kit go wrong that much?

All kit can go wrong, it's the nature of the beast, but good kit goes wrong less often. The design, quality of the components, and overall build quality sees to this.
