Hi All I was thinking of buying a Cyrus 8cdse and either the pre/8power or 8xpd.If I buy the pre/power only (£875) from Moorgates is it a better buy than say the Xpd(£1500),interms of sound per pound.I know that the Xpd will be more flexible ie adding an Onkyo ND-S1 for my ipod classic, but is it really worth the extra cash I can just use my proj-ect headbox 11 and ipod dac with the pre/power. many thanks! Nick,

Generally speaking separate pre/power amps are better due to the fact that each section is a dedicated unit, thus providing crisper sonics. However, I haven't heard the newer Cyrus incarnation, so I don't know what advantage (if any) it has over older integrated amps and/or seperate units. If you can get hold of that combo for the price you've mentioned, then go for it.

Is that Moorgates in Sheffield Nick? I was thinking about getting a Cyrus 8 amp and 8 CDP and had the same 'concern'. Should i buy dedicated with a psx-r power supply or a pre/power combination (with no psx-r power supply). I only have room for 4 "boxes" hence my query.

I keep meaning to call Moorgate's up and go in for a demo.

Yes barnsleydave Mooregates Sheffield!! I have heard the cd/pre/power with Spendor 5se'e and Pmc GB1i's on demo in Hitchin its not too far fron where I live. I might like to bi-amp or add pxr'sin the future If I can get around the wife!!!!!! My/our problem is that our lounge is almost cut in half by the fire place (through lounge chimney in the center of the room)
