Hello - any thoughts on a Cyrus 8 Power Amp vs Cyrus X Power amp? I have a Cyrus 8vs integrated amp that I'm looking to get the power amp to accompany and wondered what the forum's thoughts were in terms of differences between the two? Would likely be a 2nd hand X power or a new 8 Power.

Thanks for any feedback at all.

Hasn't the 8 Power been discontinued and effectively replaced by the X Power?

Yes, I believe so, which is why I think I'll be able to get a new one (surplus stock) for the same price as a used X power.

Bartlett's in London (no connection whatsoever) are selling the 8 Power for £950 and the X Power for £920 (reduced from £1000), both new I presumably.

I'd get the X power if I were you: the extra umph gives more clarity and space. There are refurbished ones around that probably are more or less the same price as a new 8 Power (if they're still selling them). That's how I bought mine (on my second system), and jolly glad I did too! My previous 8 power is now sitting, reduntant, in its box, poor thing. I've got Mono Xs on my main system, but that's another subject altogether.......

Thanks - that's kind of what I figured. What interconnect have you used with the X power?

The X Powers are great and a big step on from the old 8 power. I used mine in stereo mode then saved up and got a second one so I have them in mono. Both have psx-r power supplies which add extra power. Whats great is you can upgrade over time and each step makes a big difference.

I use Chord signature interconnects which IMHO really fit well into the set up.

I also used to have a 8vs2 and I think a X-power fit fit in really nicely with it, I have now given it to my brother otherwise I would wire it up to give you a more detailed opinion.

8 Power is still available but the best move would be get an X power as it is significantly better than the 8 power. Might I suggest you bi amp using the the X power for the HF and 8vs for the LF. A PSX-r would greatly help the 8vs.

I second that comment from crossie.

Also crossie got to say awesome set up .. 4 mono X's ... One day maybe... But the great thing about Cyrus is the missis won't notice the upgrades as the boxes all look the same

Thanks, that's really helpful and I think I've made my mind up - X Power it is! Really looking forward to hearing the difference it makes.

Apologies in advance for the dumb question. Which socket on the amps is for HF and which one is for LF?

In the user manual Cyrus recomend the HF is from the intergrated and the LF is from the Power amp.

Tried it both ways and didn't notice a difference, but one way or the other is the way to go.

As the x power is better than the 8vs and the detail is in the HF I would use use xpower for HF. Try both ways, its your choice. Another thought would be to use the 8vs as a pre amp and just use the xpower for everything. Better still get two x powers...

sell the 8vs...

get a pre XP...

you do realise this is just the start...

here be dragons...

this is where you are headed, your bank balance will suffer.
