Asking a question on how much better a cyrus 8se last years model would be than an Arcam cd 192.

Im very happy with my system since I got the pre and power, but could get the 8se for £700, and about £350 for my arcam, so was wondering that is all.

I am sure the cyrus presentation would be alot more forward, but the arcam is not exactly a shrinking violet either....

I think the synergy with your Cyrus gear would benefit from the Cyrus CDP (more so if you added a PSX-R) but as you said; the CD192 can hold it's own VERY well indeed!

I feel it could be more of a sideways move in the end though...

I think it would be an improvement...

BUT, for 700 pounds you could get a (reprocessed or last years) Cyrus DAC X which would provide a big boost using the ARCAM as a transport.

Alternatively, have Cyrus upgrade the PreVS2 to a Pre XPd and you will see further benefits, not just in the improved DAC on the Pre XPd, plus you get a new 2 year warranty.

To justify the move to the cyrus, I would have to sell the arcam to fund it, otherwise I would get a kicking from the missus.

Oh yeah, I am scared of her when she shouts ha-ha!

Ask her kindly not to shout "Ha-Ha" then.

.

IMHO that would be a waste of a superb CDP!

I honestly think that the OP is going to have to look beyond the current budget to better the Arcam CD192 CD player.

I think c£1500 or more would do it

I don't think adding a DAC X is wasting the ARCAM as a CD player. Its a high quality transport and adding a seperate DAC will reap benefits with respect to seperate power supplies as well as a higher performing DAC, for example. A new DAC X+ is 1500 pounds worth of kit don't forget...

I do agree that to significantly better the performance as a single box CD player, you would have to spend considerably over its new asking price.

Im not sure about the dac x, as I need to sell the other cd player to fun anything else, as cash dictates it.

I know what hifi raved about the 8se and how it beat most players upto about 2K, so was expecting a good jump in sound quality.

If everyone things that it would only give a small difference, then I will save my cash and buy a much better player down the line.

My way of looking at it was, that for say £350, I could get an 2009 version 8se with new software (obviously), then take the psx-r off the pre amp where it is at the moment, and add it to the 8se, giving a better jump in sound.

What are your thoughts?

I would do as I suggested or save your money...

Very true haha! I am going to get the 8se on a weeks home demo, and if I like it, keep my arcam on ebay, but if not, then take it off again and plug it back in.

No home demo as of yet, as I checked what software it had in it, and it was very old! We know what problems they have had.

Got to goto Cyrus for updating, and could be 4 weeks before I see it to try! An engineer is not on site for a while, hence the 4 weeks.....
