Cyrus 8 XP + PSX-R or Power?

It's been a long time since I've had Cyrus amplification, but I can remember the benefits that adding a PSX-R can bring. Trouble is I'm also aware of the benefits of bi-amping, problem is I can only have one or the other at the moment.

My question is what do you think would bring the most benefit to a Cyrus 8 XP, adding a secondhand Power to bi-amp or a PSX-R? Thanks.

To be honest I haven't heard the PSX-R nor the Power amp, but I would think the benefits would be more obvious with the power amp, also heard on this forum that the PSX only give subtle differences. On the other hand, the power amp (bi-amped) would be where I'd spend my money.

If you want more current to improve the drive of your speakers then go for the power. Think faster, deeper bass, punchier sound, better scale.

If you want more detail, focus and clarity then the PSX will help the pre section along.

Which to choose will depend on your priorities and also how well the speakers are being driven at present.

Is the constraint a financial one Pete?

is it a case of which one do you go for first?

Both really! I'm in the process of returning my AVR600 and getting a Yamaha DSP-Z7 to replace it. I'm anticipating that the stereo sound will not be on a par with the AVR600. Having said that I was getting better stereo results from my AVR600 using my modded DacMagic which will also be used with the Z7, so you never know, I may not feel the need to get a seperate stereo amp. Assuming I do, I'm considering the Cyrus 8 XP or Naim Nait XS. I'll audition both, but I'm a Cyrus man of old and I'm probably bias in that direction.

If I do get a Cyrus 8 XP, I'll definately be adding a Cyrus Power amp of some description and a PSX-R, but only one at first.
