Hi All,

First post here. I have a Cyrus 7 Amplifier driving a pair of Linn Tukans. Its been working great for months but suddenly i turned it on today and heard a loudish DC pop in the right speaker. The standby LED flashes Green/Orange which is an overload condition in the manual. Ive check everything over with a multimeter and the speaker is all fine, If i swap the speakers over it does the same. The left hand channel works perfectly so its definitely an internal issue.

Any ideas what would cause this? Seems a bit like a short perhaps but there is nothing obvious. I dont want to open it up yet incase it voids the warranty.

Any suggestions appreciated

Think you're being a bit rash. Could be worth trying to find out whats wrong before spending £250 on a new amp!

well if its under warranty take it back to your dealer, although im not sure how a 7 series would still be under warranty. if not crack it open and look for a failed component

Well you said 'any suggestions welcome'

The suggestion was in relation to how much Cyrus may charge you for the repair. If the charge is nowhere near that and it probably won't be then great! However, if it was......

Its a refurbished unit so has a warranty but its an absolute pain id rather fix it myself if possible.

Ill give Cyrus a call later today and find out if i am allowed to pop the case open without voiding the warranty.

If it has a warranty and you mess about with it, then you viod the warranty imediately. Send it back to either the shop or cyrus (depends who you bought it off) and get them to sort it. Otherwise, you will have a good amp that you cannot fix yourself and they will not touch it either!

Sounds EXACTLY like a fault I had. Mine hummed for a few seconds before it went. I wasn't playing it loud at all. Mine is fixed now and it was just a fusible resistor. When faulty my amp behaved itself if no load was placed on the dead channel. With a load I saw the lights you are seeing.
