I want to spend around £4000 on brand new Cinema setup .

Would this setup be any good ?

ONKYO TXSR875E £799
PDP-LX5090 50-inch ‘HD Ready 1080p’ KURO (9th Generation) £2300
Q ACOUSTICS 1010i 5.1 SPEAKER PACKAGE £500 OR
KEF KHT3005SE 5.1 SPEAKER SYSTEM for £999.00

Would this setup be ok ? the rest of the money left will be spent on Cables and wall mounts ect.

What speakers would be best for the ONK 875 that i have selected above , Kef or Acoustic ?

My Room is around 6 x 6 so any advice you lovly people would could give me would do me wonders . Cheers Jason x

My HD content will be running from my PS3

Just spent £4000 in sevenoaks last week i got a 50" pioneer pdp508xd, monitor audio silver rs6 av package with an mj acoustic pro 50 mkII sub and an onkyo 606 amp they threw in all the cables free it came to £3,999 its awsome i tested it in there demo room was bloody amazing. picture and sound couldnt ask for any more i am delighted with it still gotta run them in now. i dnt think you would regret this set up good for both music and cinema.

What cables (type, brand and length) did they throw in? Looking spend about the same but without the TV, and trying to factor cables etc into the cost.

No argument with the receiver, and Pioneer TVs have a fine reputation (we're getting the new PDP-LX5090 in for review the week after next), but I'd definitely upgrade the speakers to the likes of B&W's 685 Theatre package rather than the Q Acoustics.

Watch what amp you buy i did a demo with b&ws with an onkyo 606 and it didnt have the juice to run them. where as the MAs ran fine on a 606 sounded gr8 so you wud be saving 400 quid rite away. of course the size of your romm will determine your amp.

as for the free cables i got 3 qed hdmi cables(one 2meter) a 3 meter sub cable and 20 meter of qed spkr cable. Ihad to do a little haggling but if you go in tell them thats wot u want and your only prepared to buy ther an then if they supply what av jus listed they mite say oh we cnt but jus pretend ur about to walk away they will *** up with the goods.

I reckon the Onkyo and B&W packages will work well together, I have the Onkyo 905 and a variation on the B&W 685 Theatre package (M1s as rears instead of 686s) and it sounds fantastic. On the sub, I'm pretty sure you'll find the included one is fine, but you can always phone in advance and ask to demo it with some different ones. The B&W 685 Home Theatre package is actually just the total cost of all the sub-components, so you're not getting a discount for buying the "package". Because of this, you can actually mix and match with anything you like.

Iv been reading alot of reviews today and was thinking about what i want and how it would work in my room . its only a 6x6 so im thinking that the B&W 685's will be to big ?

I was thinking about maybe going with the Monitor Audio BR2 Range.

Im 100% getting the plasma Pioneer 5090 as it blows away any Plasma iv seen it next to.

Im just really stuck on the Speakers :(

Would i be better of getting say 5.1 KEF set up and going with something like ONKYO TXSR606 HOME CINEMA RECEIVER, To tell the truth i just want Receiver that will do the new DTS HD and Tue HD and thats it to tell the truth. The only problem is i want to listen to music aswell and alot of people have said the 606 is rubbish at doing this. ( at the moment i have the Denon 1507 that i have been using and i Enjoy the sound i get from it but it doesnt do that True HD or DTS HD, Shame really.

Can you lobly people advise me on what Receiver and speakers would be best for my room size. 6x6 . Cheers Jas

professorhat:I'm assuming this must be 6m x 6m (considering you're putting a 50" TV in and all!) in which case, I don't think the 685s would be too big at all...

I agree with the prof. Your room is quite large in my opinion - my RS6AV speakers do not overwhelm my lounge which is as long as yours but only 4m wide.

Why not have a listen to the RS6 package? I run the RS8 on the fronts, it sounds excellent in my room which is about the same as yours.

Got a really good deal on the speakers and 875 off Wilkinsons Hi Fi for £2400 with 25mtrs QED cable thrown in. Should be well within budget.

A bit late i guess, but i have the Onkyo amp. It is to be fair, rather in your face as whf say it is, i love a full attack but it does get wairy after a while. But on other quieter films it show its delicate side, but when you want bangs it bangs. I love that, but even for me it kicks hard, I love it to bits but it is like an wild chlld. out hink you have ti rained in and it kicks your head in!!!! If i lived in a detached house i would buy again. Damn it i would buy again, if a little more finesse was given. Tempt me out off a Sony, and I will listen. But only if I get a free trial!!!!!! Onkyo?????? Im willing to buy from you again, just temp me now!!!!!!

So, is there a reason why you aren't looking at denon recievers? The sound that you get from Onkyo recievers will be different to the sound from Denons.

The Denon 2310 would be well worth a look and would go well with the MA RS6 pack, which you may still be able to get at the discount prices, or the new RX6 pack. The B&W speakers mentioned would also be a good choice.

Quote by jason on the my system forum

I found the Denon 2310 works really well with the B&W 685s , Before i made the big jump in price between the Denon 1910 & 2310 i had a listen to Wall E on Blu-ray , Both receivers sounded really good with this movie but i did notice right way the sound Difference from the Denon 3210 over 1910 ,The sound just seemed more clean , I also noticed the bass was clean in gun shots and music etc , this was lacking in the Denon 1909 & also 1910 i must say.,this is what made me go for 2310 :) Also another example since i have had this Receiver is i have watched Die hard on Sky HD ,I was hearing things i have not before , I must have been watching all these movies lacking bass as now with all the explosions i feel i am now in the movie , isn't this is what home cinema systems are all about after all. I have also just finished watching The Matrix Trilogy in True HD and cant get over how sexy the sound is now .......... I always look at the bigger picture , Yes the Denon 1910 is good but do you want something that makes it that little better , you might have to work that extra week for the cash but its worth it in the long run . I wont be upgrading this Receiver for along time i can tell you that.

Just remember you don't need to get it all right way , save some money and buy different parts each month , after all it has taken me well over 1 year to get this system to where it is now,

I just need to get the Pioneer 5090 and maybe B&W PV1 or New Monitor Audio Subwoofer and then thats me finished on my system :).

Im trying to figure out what you are on

I have followed your antics on the my system forum titled ** Watch me Build my Home Theater System ** running to 209 posts

Only a short while ago after building your system you posted that you were now selling your full system to Travel the world

Well that idea didnt last long

either did the quote above,

Cant figure you at all , we all like to upgrade but your posts do not make sense, your not looking for advise ,therefore it is a waste of time anyone advising you

so what did happen to the travel plans?

have to admit your thread in the my systems forum was the most interesting in that section and no sooner had you finally cobbled it all together when you had a change of heart and decided to sell it to finance some travel

in the thread you seemed quite happy with the components so why not buy those again? - your not likely to get a much better set-up than the one you had for 4K

dangalf i think you missed a couple of points, 1) Jason followed up on his travel plans and did say he was keeping his system for now, 2) The above thread is approx 1.5 yrs old and if you had read it Jason was not asking anything, someone replied to his thread, albeit, a year and a half later!

I think Jason still has all his gear- however thats just a guess
