Hi,

I have a Yamaha active sub, with two inputs, mono left and input right.i pulled the cable ou and forgot which input it came from.logic states input right, considering the amp outputs .

Any ideas please.

Thanks

If you have only one cable from your amp to the sub (eg from the sub out on an AV receiver) then it goes into the 'mono left' input on this sub – though actually it shouldn't make any difference which of the two inputs you use, as they both go through the same mono amp and drive unit.

Really? Could you explain that logic, given how the left input is labelled?

Hi,

The reason I asked was because I'm sure I had the cable connected to the mono input, but when i went to reconnect I noticed the extra input , hence the question .i didn't want to cause any damage to the sub.I will reconnect to the mono input, thanks

The two inputs are there purely because some stereo set-ups can supply left and right feeds to a sub – for example when using a preamplifier with two sets of outputs, with one set connected to the sub and another to a stereo amplifier to drive the main speakers – but the two inputs on the sub will be 'commoned' inside, and feed the same amp and drive unit.

Well, yes I got that much, I just don't understand why logic (and the amp's connections) would dictate that the right-hand input would be the correct one?

You mean left? As far as I understand there is more bass encoded on the left channel than the right. So it will give some benefit if you can only connect one cable prior to summing in the sub. Sorry for the late post on this.
