connecting a sub to a stereo amp

i have my sub connected to my HC amp using the LFE connection - i want to connect it to my hifi amp also which i believe use the pre outs and you need to connect left and right to the sub.

if i have both connected does one of the connections have dominanace over the other or if i should happen to turn both on at the same time will it damage either of the amps or the sub?

I'm sure others here are more qualified to answer this question; but my advise would be to not connect the sub to more than one amplifier at a time. I'm quite sure that with my sub the manual said to connect one or the other; but not both.
