connecting a half decent cd player

I'm thinking of buying a half decent cd player, if I connect this to my denon 1909 amp with phono connectors and hit pure direct will this bypass the dac inside the denon and use the cd players dac instead or will this add some form of processing still, reason for this is I don't have the budget or the space at the moment to buy a dedicated stereo amp aswell and being as my front speakers for 5.1 are bi amped anyway thought this might give a half decent sound am I on the right lines here, help really appreciated

Are you unhappy with your CD sound currently?
I discarded by dedicated CD as I favoured the sound of my universal Pioneer DVD player with my receiver doing DAC duties.
To be fair my CD player was late 1990s Yamaha and it was okay.
Best CD sound I ever had was PS3 Set to bitmap type 3, output at 48khz, letting my Onkyo do the DAC.
