We have had our Pioneer system for nearly 30 years and now cd player not working now and radio sound noisy, our neighbour says it is not the speakers and thinks we should buy a new system. He brought in an Argos catalogue to help choose what we need and what there is today. What we need is a radio, CD player/with casette if possible and whatever else will bring us up to date without being too complicated. The Pioneer is a 6 CD player which was excellent with random play, my husband could sit for hours listening. Ones I have looked at only seem to have 1-3 CD player now. Do so need your advice. Many thanks. Mavis

Mavis, Cassette desk and multi disc CD players are pretty rare these days

Go to your local Richer Sounds get an amp and speakers you like (I'd recommend Q Acoustics for VFM speakers)

and spend as much as you can on the source you use the most, be that CD or Radio, then add the other sources

when funds allow. Richer should be pretty helpful and if they aren't please let us know here

Thanks for that. I would say that the Radio first and then CD, Cassette are only now and then, so could use an old cassette player for them, just thought it might be possible to get the lot. Just looked up Richer in Manchester and Stockport so will have a look there, had never heard of them!! Sounds good advice. Many thanks.

Agree with the 'Richer Sounds' suggestion. And I'm impressed that the 6 Disk Pioneer lasted so long!

Thanks Mr Morph

I have had a look at Richer Sounds website and will go to the Stockport branch. Actually the 6 disk Pioneer wasn't the original one it was the second one. I had a technician come today to check out our problems and he said that it was the tuner and that he could fix it. He could also fix the CD disk player as it was the laser and possibly another part there, he said the amplifier was very good. He quoted around £120 for parts and labour but recommend we go to Richer to see what they could do either separately or a mini hifi, he pointed out that we would all need a DAB radio in the future, so a new tuner maybe the way to go. He said to let us know if we wanted him to repair it but seems more sense to get a new system. I will take a look online to see if the ones you listed above are there. Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
