Hi all..

My old TV's died. I need to buy a new TV and DVD recorder/player. I've had a look through the forums here and the TH37PX80 sounds very good. I'm erring on the side of 37" and plasma unless someone can change my mind.

As far as the DVD recorder goes, i have'nt got a clue. Can you guy's give me some advise on this please?? What's the pro's and con's?

Also what extra's will i need? Things like cables, etc etc.

Thanks in advance...

Shaun

No problem at all with the TH-37PX80.

DVD recorder? We'd be tempted to hang fire over the next few months and see what happens with the new Freesat, and plans for the new Freeview services, regarding HD, rather than buying a machine which could cost you £300 or so now and finding it won't give you access to the new services.

The best bet is a reasonable upscaling DVD player such as the Samsung DVD-HD870 at the bottom end of the market - £80 or so - or a Denon DVD-1740 or Oppo DV-980H in the midrange (around £150-£160).

Or if you'd rather buy a DVD recorder to tide you over, the Panasonic DMR-ES15 is the one to go for at about £180.

Cables? You'll need an HDMI cable from the DVD player to the TV. That's it.

The 37PX80 is the only 37" plasma TV (in UK), and it is very good value for the money.

Budget upscaling DVD players to also consider; Philips DVP5960 (1080i), Philips DVP5980 (1080p) - £39.99 & £51.90 respectively from Amazon - both play divx/xvid and also have USB ports for playback from a USB flash drive.
