Dear All,

Can anyone has an idea which of the above Bluray players are the best !!! (I know the BD-55 was awarded by What hifi in 2008),

but how about the other latest models - are they worth the extra money ??

Thanks for all the help.

Panasonic DMP-BD35 vs Panasonic DMP-BD80

Well, just got myself a BD-80 this morning. Been testing it all day against the BD-35 and my conclusions are as follows:

(Budget 2nd generation vs Top-End (from Panasonic, that is!) 3rd generation)

1. Picture Quality - ZERO difference (IMHO)

2. Sound Quality - MARGINAL difference (IMHO)

I'm really not into this Viera Cast thingy with YouTube and stuff. My priorities are picture and sound quality.

So, in a nutshell:

A) If you currently have the BD35, don't bother upgrading to the BD60 (IMHO)

B) If you currently have the BD55, don't bother upgrading to the BD80 (IMHO)

I
feel Panasonic is taking us for a ride with these 'new' models. Unless
you are really into these 'feel good' add-ons, picture and sound
quality, which in my opinion should be of primary consideration,
remains the same (IMHO)

It would appear that these latest releases from Panasonic aren't necessarily aiming to get us current owners to replace our recently bought players. The quick step up from the bd35/55 to the bd60/80 appears to be more of a response to the Netflix-enabled competition in the US. Panasonic is fighting a good hard fight for top spot in the budget BD player stakes and waiting a year to introduce a internet streaming enabled player in the US could have seriously hindered that fight. I would be very surprised if the internals of the BD35 and BD60 are very different.

Oh Andrew, Andrew, Andrew.

Its a perfectly valid opinion from someone who has doen something themself and hasnt just offered WHFs advice as so many do.

I know no one can do that right now, but when you do publish your verdict, opinion is all it will be, albeit a weird kind of aggregated opinion, after your reviewers have poured over many details mere mortals may not notice. You pretty much admited this in a post a few weeks ago where you said that, yes, sometimes differences are very small.

(tho i cant tell a lie. ValianTX's opinion appeals to me as i thoought long and hard about what to do and plumped for the BD35, so id be very happy if the much pricier bd80 turned out to offer no real improvement).

Andrew - I don't think you have anything to be confused about.

ValianTX did those tests himself using his own equipment and provided his own opinion on these tests - he did qualify every statement with IMHO. It is merely that, his own opinion.

It has no reflection on the tests carried out by WHFSAV, and should remain as that.

IMHO.
