Hi everyone! Iam looking to buy headphones for home use, hopefully under £200. I will be playing apple lossless files mainly from my mac mini. I will eventually be investing in a usb dac aswell. Just to let you know I've had grado 225is & b&w p3s in the past with a fiio e7 headphone amp. I sold the grado's because they weren't very comfy but I did love their sound. The b&ws broke after a year unfortunately.

The main priorities for me are:

comfort even for long sessions of listening

neutral sound

& they need to dig up plenty detail

i have seen the akg 551 on amazon have been reduced from £250 to £150 which were recommended & look quite promising

Any suggestions would be welcomed

Thanks in advance Oli

(apologies for any bad grammer, iam very tired)

Ps: Should I just forget headphones altogether & just buy a nice dac for my mac & plug in my jbl onbeat xtreme speakers via the headphone port instead, because iam so fed up of uncomfortable headphones

I have no idea where I would audition headphones (especially locally - South Devon) so I guess it's all about trusting reviews and recommedations.

I found this post on Head Fi which is really quite amazing and a great reference for peole thinking about getting some new cans.

I'm familiar with a lot of David Mahler's 58 headphones in the big revew, and I think his descriptions are pretty accurate.

Thanks guys but alot of those headphones are way out of my budget

I've had a number of those 58 headphones, yet the small lightweight LSTN Fillmore I use now is as good as they come. $99 in the U.S., could be greater or less in Britain.
