HMV sell anti-static cloths specifically designed for vinyl. Also, they sell cleaning fluid, and use sparingly, will keep the black stuff in optimum condition.

Regarding cleaning your stylus, you can buy tiny brush (like a small toothbrush) and gently remove any fluff or grot will vastly improve clarity.

Not in the Bham branch they don't any longer. I had to buy mine off ebay. Have a look at the needles and spins site. I won't include a link as don't wish to infringe on house rules.

For the stylus - Nothing, just use a soft brush.

For the record - Use a good cleaning machine (if affordable) but try not to use anything that leaves a residue on the record.

If you can't afford a Keith Monks, the next best thing (for a fiftieth of the price) is the Knosti Disco Antistat. Forget the K-Tel looks, it's a piece of genius (though investigate making your own fluid after the bottle in the box runs out). There's one on the 'bay here

Feeble, I can do better than that, an original *Knowin*, not Knosti, oh no, the original, disco-antistat, unused, with a full bottle of perfectly clean mixture, fully complete...

3 quid! And it's brilliant, my poor old copy of Wichita Lineman is actually listenable and sounds good! and it cleaned up an old copy of Pavarotti's O Sole Mio LP a treat as well, Bar-chuffin'-gain!

Another vote for the knosti - I've been using mine and surface noise has dropped markedly on some of my car-boot-finds...

Whats the next best solution for cleaning records? As I plan on getting a Knosti at some point but I've not got the money at the moment so it will have to be within the next few months. So in the mean time I need a cheaper/cost-effective way of cleaning my records. Is there a good cleaning kit that you can buy from anywhere, such as ebay etc?

i just use one of those carbon brushes

you could of course try wood glue as some diehards have tried and suggested on other forums but note it has to be that white woodworking glue and not epoxy

I use the Pure2 liquid and then vacuum albums with the Nitty Gritty. Works really well.

When Grahams hifi supplied my Sondek they issued me with a little envelope containing small one inch square pieces of what can only be described as green fine sandpaper. They said, let the stylus clean the record, and then use the paper to clean the stylus. I can also recommend the Disco Antistat, although the discs do seem to take longer to dry than I imagined.
