JohnDuncan:Andrew Everard:One of the reasons for the delays, I gather, is the need to migrate all the existing content over to the new platform...

The content's in there now (though admittedly it was a painful process, yes - including one memorable 34-hour day), it's just the rest of it that's broken...

Pah you big softy... That's nuttin

TBH I'm with the others re the classifieds probably not being a good idea

These forums do VERY without something coming along and potentially giving it a bad name

I say leave the buying & selling to the Bay and the likes and leave WHF for us 'chatters'

I think a classified section would be an excellent idea particularly when the likes of ebay are so expensive, a lot of the cost of course being due to the commission, the cost of pay pal etc. There is another forum which offers a classified section and as for recommendations being undermined, well if suddenly people were talking about an obscure product which just happened to go on here around the same time, well that would be obvious.

The more outlets there are for a classified section the better, perhaps what hi fi could run a poll, majority wins

Despite the likelihood of me selling my entire system some time later this year, I agree that 'What Hifi Classifieds' is not the place I would want to do it.

There would be no control over things like wanting/not wanting to sell overseas, no 'escrow' like Paypal, no guarantee that the buyer is legitimate etc. (ie Has a real address and real verified bank account that matches the address.)

You might end up with the service just being (ab)used by some as a means of demo'ing equipment with no intention to buy. (Or worse!)

It was bad enough on the (few) occasions that people dragged their ebay arguments with each other into the forum. Gawd only knows what it would have been like if WHF had actually been hosting the ad in the first place. (No matter how many lawyers draft the T&Cs and no matter how 'watertight' they are, some people are still going to want to hold WHF responsible in some way if they have a problem.)

And there's me thinking the rise in the price of oil was down to a small leaky pipe over to the West.

Chebby you overlook the great success of a certain other forum, the few times there is a problem with the sale, well at the end of the day, it's buyer's beware. You do all you can to minimise that first, like get their phone number, their address etc but ultimately no classified's are intended to be guarantees.
