Hey

I was wondering if there was a classified section, this prob has been discussed before, sorry if it has.

Would be good for people that cant afford to buy new, or just starting out.

Nice 1

Yes, it has been discussed many times in the past, and while it's something we'd like to have at some point in the future, until we have the resources to police it, not to mention a private messaging system that's protected against abuse, it's not workable.

We're not ruling that out as a stop-gap measure towards a more sophisticated solution, but just not yet. Watch this space....and please all abide by house rules re trading in the meantime!

Still Watching!! Any updates, Clare?

Not yet. We need a new web platform before we can add new features. And that platform is being updated imminently.

Patience, please!

[EDITED BY MODS - House rules - selling. Please don't try and sell your own kit - let alone try and deceive eBay punters that your second-hand speakers are 'new'. Report is on its way to eBay.]

On the contrary, it's serious business. Ensuring products are correctly listed for the benefit of the buyer is just one of the challenges any classifieds section faces...let alone the reporting/investigation system if a listing is challenged. And people wonder why we haven't rushed to do it!

Indeed: I think Nokz has just demonstrated again exactly the kind of problems likely to arise were we to run a classified section

Just voicing my opinion - feel free to completely ignore it - but I personally don't think there should be a classified section on here.

I think the WHFS&V forum works well because there is as much clarity as possible in terms of any bias that members might have (Eg. me having to have my work info in my signature) and it also manages to stay very friendly, open and supportive most of the time.

I think opening up the option of classifieds could bring all sorts of trouble.

If you ran classifieds only as 'second hand' those unfortunate situations would be avoided. Obviously it need's to be regulated at least those 'flyby nights' would be at arms length.

I dont think there should be a classified section either. Plenty of places to sell gear...

i agree with mathew , you will get some people that will reccomend products not because they may be the best choice for somebody , but because they have them for sale , it will introduce an element of bias that as of now , is not present on this forum ...

I'm inclined to agree. With a few exceptions -- responses to and from FLATSCREEN, Saw5Suffer and their ilk -- the forum is an amicable place that provides an excellent network of support and advice. Once you introduce a less altruistic (more mercenary) element, all that could change. Shame. Guess we'll have to make do with flea bay!

Not directly on the subject, but -
This "imminent new platform" mentioned earlier - will it keep the content of the forum or will the forum have to start from scratch with its introduction?

One of the reasons for the delays, I gather, is the need to migrate all the existing content over to the new platform...

The content's in there now (though admittedly it was a painful process, yes - including one memorable 34-hour day), it's just the rest of it that's broken...

I can appreciate the potential conflict of interests of a seller recommending in the forum a piece of kit that he/she is selling, but is it not possible to have it linked that they have also such item/s for sale to make the OP aware of any possible bias?

Just my thoughts.
