In the recent October issue you tested the Philips 32PFL9603D and stated that "after an inordinate amount of time spent tweaking the picture settings, the 'PFL9603D began to display a picture to rival even the most stellar of TV's in it class".

Having just purchased one of these sets I would like to know if you are able to publish the final settings which gave the above results, as I'm having the same problems trying to get the best out of this set.

First up, turn ALL the processing modes off, then calibrate the picture with a THX Optimiser disc (you can find out how to do this in our 'How To Get the Best from Your TV' video here), then turn the processing modes back on one by one to see if you like the effect.

However, we found the picture was still best with all the processing modes off.

Thanks Andy thats exactly what I have done, which begs me to ask the question why the fancy processing modes are included in the first place.

Are manufacturers like Philips simply adding all this superfluous technology just to justify a higher cost, when in reality the quality of the base solution is more than acceptable. I feel extremely cheated/robbed from buying this higher cost model only to turn off all the "expensive" processing tweaks. Guess maybe I should have went for the far cheaper 7603 instead which got such a cracking review last month. Lesson learned.
