Just answered the door (with much anticipation) to the delivery of our Philips 42PFL9664. Was not pleased when we realised Richer Sounds use City Link. Read about their habits http://www.coofercat.com/node/730.

The box had been opened. Clearly all the tape had been cut. What goes on at their depots? Not on.

Refused it (and wrote down the serial number - not having that set back). Very upset indeed & about to phone Richer Sounds.

Definitely not on!

The only problems I've ever had with City Link is taking a day off work for an expected delivery and then finding a card sometime during the afternoon on the front door saying "you were out when we tried to deliver..." when I most certainly wasn't. And then having to wait at least 24 hours before travelling to a depot in the middle of nowhere and then waiting in the queue for a couple of hours whilst the staff run around like headless chickens.

This has happened on nearly occasion I have had the misfortune to take a delivery from City Link.

That said, they're not the only company in the industry to have a bad name.

When I find out that something is to be delivered by CL, I cancel it!! They are a nightmare. If you work during the day, the only way to get something from them is to go to your local depot and mine is in Wimbledon - and I don't live near Wimbledon!

I'm not saying it is only City Link, but they seem to have more negative feedback on the web than anybody else. They certainly have a 'bad name' as Margetti points out. This is not the way one should be introduced to the lush new TV one is anticipating. Very upset.....

We did not know it was City Link when we paid. Only realised later. Richer are bringing a set from the shop direct.

That seems to be a bit of a sweeping statement (no offence though), because they did not tape it up. It was fully cut open (along the entire length and at both ends, so the TV could have been removed. How do any of us know if somebody along the supply route did not just fancy a look at the set? They should not take items that are open already. It certainly gives the buyer (at his door) no faith.

I ordered a 32" samsung LCD for the bedroom, it came by CL. My dad pulled into the road just as they were taking it off the van, and he said the driver nudged it out with his foot, until it fell on the ground out of the van! I reported it incase the tv didnt work, but I was too lazy to send it back. Its still working fine, but I agree, they are rubbish.

I did read somewhere online - "Never watch a delivery of a valuable item - it will only make you want to return it". You have no idea what happens on the way, but we recently returned a Panasonic 42 X10 Plasma (got as a 2nd set upstairs) that made us feel ill and we could not work out if it was faulty or flawed. Today a neighbour told me he watched the Currys delivery van driver drop it the 12inches from the van floor to the powered bit that lowers it to the ground - nice. What does a drop like that do to a Plasma - it didn't break it, it just ruined it!!!

HI,

Had my new Samsung LE40B650 delivered by City Link last week, got to say i had no problems what so ever. I was not aware of a bad reputation but i've got to say the driver was ace, TV packed to the side where it definately couldn't fall over or get damaged (i checked before i helped him get it out of the van) it was unopened and the box didn't even have a scratch. TV not tampered with or opened and was VERY happy with them.

All i can say is ALL courier firms have their problems but its up to us consumers to be vigilant when receiving these types of goods, check EVERYTHING with the driver present and if you are not happy for any reason tell them to take it back!!

Can't beleive how poor your delivery was though.....that is unacceptable for ANY company. Makes you wonder what else may have happened to it in transit....

Hi,

I was obviously very concerned to read of the problems you have had with your recent delivery and offer my sincere apologies for the obvious upset and inconvenience caused. Please be assured that I will be taking this up with our account manager to investigate what went wrong to ensure a similar situation does not reoccur.

City Link have been our couriers for the last 5 years with very few problems although they certainly have got it wrong on this occasion!

Finally I understand you have now spoken to my customer services manager and a new delivery has been arranged for you, once again, sincere apologies and if you have any further problems please do not hesitate to contact me via the below email address.

Many Thanks

Some time ago I ordered some SD Cards. The package arrived with a slit neatly cut in the side.

Although the boxes for the cards were still inside the cards were missing. I took pictures and sent them to head office. In time I got a full refund...

I am very happy to have some input from Richer Sounds - and of course if they have had little problem with City Link then they should say so - I'm all for balance. Over the past 5 years I have read so many bad things about CL, but I suppose few people bother to mention their positive experiences on forums. Like I said, the driver WAS correct and helpful, but why do they even bring an opened item - shouldn't it just be reported as such? Having got so much from this forum over the past few weeks, I felt I had to share my experience (isn't that the point).

I would also like to say that Richer Sounds have done everything they can to sort this out and cannot apologise enough. Up to now I give them 5 stars for customer care and service and (with reservations about the courier they use) I would certainly go there again. I did feel Paul in the Sheffield branch did care about my problem and wanted a satisfied (and happy) customer.

I look forward to a happier delivery.

on a far smaller scale - but incredibly frustrating right now - City Link are in possession of my Beatles remasters boxset, ordered from Amazon. It's supposed to arrive this morning, but no sign so far. And other people have had theirs in via alternative means

I have just emailed John Clayton from Richer Sounds who has contributed to this thread, to point out how happy I am with Richer's reactions to my problem with City Link.

There just seem to be so many poeple on the web who have had a bad experience with CL. I just want to make it as clear as I can that Richer Sounds have customer service the old fashioned way (like they care) whereas you may not find too many contributors who will say that about CL. I am glad they got somebodies telly to them safely though (and that fact is now documented in this thread). Stolen memory cards though. That's not just a refund issue - it should be a Police matter.

I hope your boxset is a lot less open than our Philips 9664 was Clare!

The following day (Wednesday) Richer Sounds brought a different (unopened) 9664 direct to my house from their shop in a black cab. Yes - plenty of room in one for a 42inch TV box!

See my Philips Essence 42PES0001 & 42PFL9664. Does anybody own one? thread for more. I cannot over-recommend Richer. I am not in the business of telling anybody where they should shop, but I firmly believe in sharing my experiences for the benefit of other buyers. It is information I would appreciate - that is why I posted this thread. I'm glad I can share my positive conclusion.

Hi,

I would just like to add my voice to the Richer Sounds pat on the back for customer service, although my TV didn't come from them this time (see previous page) i have bought ALOT of my home cinema equipment from them and if you value a great customer service they are amongst the best out there! The only reason i didn't buy my TV from them this time was price and distance to a store, my local store closed a while back and the closest one to me now is a 140mile round trip away (not good!) but i've never had a problem with anything i have bought from them, highly recommended!

Only the day after I read this thread about City Link, I had my own encounter with them. Not over a TV or expensive item, but over a £5.99 book. For this it is also Amazon's fault.

I ordered a book on Amazon using Amazon Prime. Most of the time (for me at least) Amazon Prime items - especially inexpensive ones - are sent by Royal Mail next day delivery, and don't need to be signed for. For whatever reason, this time they chose City Link.

Yesterday I arrive home from work to find a card on my mat saying they tried to deliver the book. They helpfully stated when they had tried this, but neglected to tell me if they would reattempt delivery or if I had to go pick it up. Whatever, I thought, I'd find out soon enough. Sure enough, the next day there's another card on the mat saying they'd tried again, so now I had to go pick it up. That's when I looked up where their nearest depot actually is.

A 45 minute drive away. That's not there and back, but just in one direction.

An hour-and-a-half round trip to pick up a £5.99 book that should've just been put through my letter box in the first place.

Sod it, Amazon can have the book back. Judging by comments read here and on the posted links regarding City Link I'm not going to even bother with the headache of speaking with them, they'll send it back on their own in five days.

Also, very true regarding Richer Sounds. They'll definitely be my port of call next month when the time finally comes for me to buy a new telly!

I would definitely leave it there - by the sound of it, you'll have to go to the depot in the evening where you'll be greeted by the sight of a hundred other people also all attempting to pick up their missed deliveries. 2.5 hours I think it took us - if it hadn't been a joint (and pretty expensive) present for a friend from all my friends and I, I would have left it there.
